Hey all!

Just picked up my first Datsun! I bought it from a fellow board member here, datu, and am just now getting a chance to sign up for your forum.

Luckily it was nice enough the first day owning it to get a car wash in. It cleaned up a bit, and a friend of mine was able to get some shots of it outside.

As you can tell its a bit of a project, but its an overall solid car. Has one small, but easily repairable cancer spot on the floorboards, which will be fixed asap!

I added the missing fuel line, changed all the fluids and filters, new fuel added, and got it running. Amazing after sitting for several years it fired right up with no major issues. I was even able to drive it around my property a bit.

I'll be posting updates for the car on my blog http://www.teampenguin.us as well as here. Hope to have it running well, stopping well, and looking good by the spring season.

Welcome! Looks like a solid car as you said, and it is a good sign that she fired right up... Guess she's ready for her return to glory! familiarize yourself with a good manual (available on line), check the "evil L" chain guide for damage (if you don't know, ask!), and keep us posted on your progress and questions... We're here to help!

Looks great! If you don't have a 2000 grill for it, I have one for sale in the parts section. For the side trim, look into the stick on stuff that James found. Some indoor/outdoor black carpet from Home Depot, and it will be a decent driver for cheap! Door panels are an easy do to make your own if you want to go low buck, or the vendors have nice repros. Hubcaps are easy too - I have a set of those in the garage as well.

Do a search on Cowles trim - it looks awesome - almost like OEM and costs about $20. The clean line of side trim adds LOT to the look of the car IMO.

Cheers
James

sounds great! I'll look it up.

For the door panels I was just going to go the 1/8" marine ply board route and cover it with some black roll vinyl. I've done that in the past to most of the panels on an MGB I restored and it came out pretty nice!

I do have the grill, and most of the side trim to put back on. I'll probably take it down to metal and give her a repaint over winter since I'll have the time. Might have to set up an assembly line for the paint booth though. My roomate is mid restoration of a 914, and my race car needs paint too.

As for wheels, im not sure if ill keep the stock wheels or go to something else. I have a few ideas, we'll see what the budget will permit for over winter.

Wow, your 1st Datsun! Congrats and welcome to the Datsun world. I still remember buying my 1st Datsun, it was a brand new 620 pickup. I've had 12 more Datsun's after that, (currently I have 4).
Your Roadster looks like a nice start!

I was wondering where the Van Wert 2000 went. Glad it stayed in the area. There is another white 2000 just east of you (Woodville) being put back together as we speak. Hope to see you in the spring and welcome to the forum.

Welcome - great starter with great potential - evil chain already mentioned - but also at some point you might want to check on the 5th gear - it has a habit of unwinding from the shaft - and thus no 5th.
There are various fixes - check the threads for the best

Nothing to do with your car but your avatar picture of the cat is hilarious. Don't think I've ever seen a cat that really "frowns" like that; looks like a grumpy old man.

Not that I'm biased you understand but you picked a good year and model!
