I have Sumitomos like on my car, love 'em -- you can also go 195 if your offset will permit it.
I sell them too, if you're interested in a quote.

As noted, depends on wheel offset. Typically a 195/55 or 195/60/14 will work fine. Dunlop makes a great tire in street (Direzza DZ101), and super sticky (Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec) at a decent price. I have the street version on my celica and love them. Sometimes wish I had gone the super sticky version on the Roadster but I got a great deal on some Bridgestones Potenzas that have worked well too.
checked around... the DZ101 is no longer available in 14s, and the supersticky is running $126 each... they have gotten more expensive! My Bridgestones are also NLA. The General Altimax HP is supposed to be a good all around at $70, and as Garm said the Sumitomos are well reviewed and at a good price.

Yeah the Sumitomos are grippy and good quality at about $70 each (more or less).
I'm a canyon runner and my tires have to grip, but these will last quite a while too.

There are not many options in a 175/14 only the 185, 195/14s and with the lower 60 profile, not the 70.

Discounttiredirect.com is having a Black Friday sale, $50.00 off 4 tires. They have Falken ZE512 185 or 195 60-14 for $60.00, so $190.00 for 4. Not a bad deal.

It may be my alignment geometry, but I found I plowed too easily with 185's, and really like the 195's bettter.
I am not a good judge of how hard the steering is at slow speed, cause I also have a 13" whel and sit very upright because of back problems (or the avoidance thereof).

Thanks Dave!
I hate their tire size search. I want to search through ALL of their 13" sizes to see if they have anything w/ a whitewall. Suggestions?
Cheers

Wide whites are not easy.
You may be stuck with Coker tires, not cheap, but good tires,
Or there are these...
http://www.portawalls.com/. Work best on Bias ply according to the site.
Maybe search the rat rod sites for ideas?

I run the Falken Azenis 195/60s on the track. I think they're fine. A little too slippery at speed in the rain, but for dry they're just fine. Last well too. I have comp springs all around and rolled the wheel well rim (late model wide flare fenders). With current wheels I get a touch of rubbing still though, they are pretty wide. 185s would probably be fine, but a test fit would be a good idea as other wheels 'with the same offset' are a little different and do not rub.
Didn't like the Dirrazza as much, but they came with a deeper tread, and I didn't shave them so that affected. I actually got them for rain tires, but ended up trying them in the dry. Of course didn't bring them for the weekend we had rain.

They did clear better.
The ZE512 do look like a good street tire, but no experience.
