"web ring" hijacking ?

Anyone else getting the occasional hijack to a "web ring" when they try to hit 311s.org?

It's happened to me several times the past few weeks. I get to the main site, and by the time I get ready to click "Discussion Forum" I am automatically redirected to a "web ring" site.

It gets in a loop besides, where finally I close the browser and go somewhere else.

Has happened on a Mac and two PCs, varying IP addresses.

A search for "roadster", always happens to me. 311s "discussion" never.

same here. it seems like it started after the updates a few weeks ago.

also on a side note, if you have not ran updates on your pc for the IE please make sure you do. There is a very evil and nasty IE exploit out there. The patch came out last Friday I believe.

Me too! It is just an inconvenience at this point, not a rear problem for me.

I only got it on the lap top not the desk top. Neither an apple. Don't know why it would happen on one and not the other.

Yah, I've had it happen in browsers Safari, Firefox and IE, all fully updated.

That's it, I'm going back to Netscape Navigator 3.0

tnx for responses; i gave a heads-up PM to Steve in case there's some messing-about

Navigator 3.0 worst idea ever.

If you want to keep yourself as protected as you can, keep up with your windows updates, updated, buy good virus protection, and download malware bytes (which is free and one of the best tools out there; but to be used in addition to your virus protection, NOT instead of). Run malware bytes on your computer at least once a week, keep your virus protection updated and run scans every night.

One thing we've been doing is running a browser like Safari on a Windows machine. The browser works great, but also isn't as dependent on the OS like IE and lowers your chances of having problems.

311s.org is linked to the Web Ring but it should not redirect you without you clicking on the Web Ring link. This should only be on the main website not the forum. I think it has more to do with the web browser than it does with the 311s.org website. And, yes, Microsoft released a critical patch for IE last week. We applied it to all of our servers immediately and rebooted. Keeping patches up to date is very important. Pretty sure this had nothing to do with the forum software update as they are not really tied together. We were infected once a few years back on the forum where a hacker put a redirect script that would take you to a page and download a virus infecting your PC. Fergie caught that one and pointed it out to me right away. We got that fixed ASAP. Sorry to hear folks are having issues. Maybe try clearing your IE cache and make sure you have all of the latest patches. Thanks.

I just tried to go to the 311s home page and before it fully loaded, it threw me onto the webring. Maybe that link needs to be removed?

So, I removed the webring completely for now. Please try again Sid. Thanks.
