Hey roadster race fans, yesterday we put Datsun 1600 pushrods back up on the podium third step for the second time in as many years.

We had an issue in qualifying with a new engine that popped the head gasket in the second session, so we changed back to last years engine for the race missing the third qualifying. Hence, we started 13th but knew that engine was strong and quickly made up ground.

Ran laps in the race faster than ever and unfortunately ran the tires off the rear. I could not re-pass Henry and was in 4th but Prill locked up and spun off turn 12 with a lap to go and that made it third!

Gotta thank Scotty and Dan at Taylor Racing for fixing an issue in the trans while I swapped the engine. Thanks also to Mark at TriMark and JP at JP Metalfab who help me locally with the car. Thanks to Nissan and Goodyear for their continued support!

You can see the race on the Speedcast TV website http://www.speedcasttv.com/scca/#/races/316" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

Way to go Bill! That was a great race to watch. I can only imagine how surprised those guys would have been to see you if qualifying had gone according to plan...

Great work keeping the Datsun spirit alive!

Hey Bill, great effort at the run offs. I was kind of introduced to you at the Loooong Race at Blackhawk by Steve Jacobson last weekend. I was driving the blue and white 68 roadster #103. I was so overwhelmed with everything that was going on I guess I didn't know I was in (as Jacobson says) the presence of Roadster Greatness.

Hi Bill
What was the tranny issue that got fixed?
I'm always amazed how race teams fix things in an afternoon that takes everyone else days (or weeks!) to fix.LOL

Hi Steve,

Hey, it was great to meet you and see you pedal Dave's old car around so well. I was impressed at the way you were lapping in a new car and track. We're fortunate to have a pretty close group of roadster enthusiasts here in WI. And if you ever have an issue, I'm only an hour from BFR.

Hi Linda,

The issue I was having was that the shifter was notchy on the 3 to 2 downshift and I was losing time. So I talked to Dan and Scotty at Taylor in the morning, pulled the engine and trans and got the trans to them. And while I prepped the replacement engine, they "massaged" the linkage and cleared the issue. Got it all back and into the car and fired by the end of the afternoon. We raced the next day. Race cars are a bit easier to wrench on than the street version and I've changed engines so many times...
