Fun read, and nice to see that the Z did so well. Imagine what it would have been like with a few minor tweaks... I think the Z would have left it behind.

That's what I was thinking......They should of least given the Z 16" extreme performance tires.

or at least Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec tires.

I enjoyed the article too, imho I think it's great that a company actually had the guts to produce a somewhat affordable, light, RWD sports car made for driving enjoyment.

I agree. I'm glad they built the FR-S, and I think it is gonna be a very fun car in line with what Datsun did with the Roadster and 240... make an affordable, normally aspirated, balanced sports car... kinda what we all love...

With a set of decently adjusted sidedrafts (Weber, Mikuni, Dellorto) and a very mild cam, along with a minor step up on tires it sounds like the Z would not have only beaten the FR-S, but also been more easy to drive vs the SUs (to me, one of the main weaknesses of the SU carbs was the choke system. The starter system on DCOE type carbs is much better).

I love my vintage cars guys, but I've driven both and the Z can't touch the FRS.
If you mod one to "level the playing field", you get to mod the other, and there is PLENTY of aftermarket for the FRS already.

The stock FRS comes with Prius tires, by the way. That is one of MANY details omitted (interestingly) from the article.

The bottom line: I love 'em both and I'm grateful both cars were produced.
