cleaning old head gasket crud

Any tips on how to get that crud left behind by gasket shellac without making a mess? I'm thinking I could brush on some paint stripper and wipe it off 20 minutes later. If I scrape it or get the wire brush out I'm going to have to figure out how to clean all of that out of the coolant surrounding the pistons.
Thanks!

Razor blade and a strong degreaser. It should come right off.

Use spray type carb cleaner and razor blade. The cleaner will do most of the work. Always stuff rags in the cylinders and passages when cleaning. Vacuum the cylinders when done. The carb cleaner will also remove or soften paint if left on too long !
