it can be done :D

it is a relatively tall and wide motor compared to other inline-4s and V6s we've seen in our engine bays

yup, notice the "hood mod" that had to be done :D

I asked Todd why he didn't go for the VQ37 (Z34 engine) and it wasn't available at the time of the build

Did you see the car in person Alvin?

How much of a bulge would have to be pounded into the hood to clear the motor and keep the hood even with the fenders? I'm wondering if it could have been done with glass or even metal...

Oh, and I'm assuming some of that was done for heat issues as well, but..

I haven't seen the car in person, but I think there several tricks that can be done to accommodate "tall" engines without adding hood scoops, etc...

-dry sump
-aftermarket/custom sheetmetal intakes

you can see that Todd used the entire factory intake system, minus the beauty cover

The problem with most dry sump set-ups is the pump location and the frame rails/steering box.

I could make a custom intake....but I don't think I could do as good a job as the factory.

Would look cool with ITBs using a MAP sensor and air horns......

I wonder what the body with cage is worth.

Do you think that's a twin turbo?

This may be of interest, here is a picture of my custom inlet manifold on my VQ30det in my 260Z.
It is much lower than stock VQ height, my sump is level with the bottom of the cross member and the stock bonnet closes.

Very nice work.

I have not had too much experience with forming aluminum. Did you form those halves over a wooden die?

Alvin! I just noticed your signature... perhaps it's time for 248 to have it's own thread!

I do not want to hijack this thread, I will post some pics here but I have over a hundred photos of this like a step by step guide on how to make this manifold, and yes the 3mm thick alloy was formed over a timber die.

You are right I could let my inlaws sleep there overnight if I need to.
I have a thread over at VQ30det.com outlining the making of this manifold, but at the moment the forum is not working.

Rob,
You have some great fabrication skills?

That's a really good method. Are those hold to hold the plate?
