Dumb question

Post by kentq »

I'm fairly new to the roadster scene so I apologize for my ignorance but my question is are the 2000 rear ends any beefier than the 1600's or is the only difference in the gearing?

Not that I'll ever approach the limits, but when I read about the engine swaps and Will's big torque U20, I wonder how much torque/hp a stock rear end will take. I know Bob Sharp's competition prep manual shows that a stage IV motor can make as much as 185hp but aren't the SR20 DET guys putting out quite a bit more than this? Has anyone had the misfortune of finding out? Thanks in advance!

I think the bearings, etc. in the 1600 and 2000 rear ends are the same. As you stated, only a gearing change.

No troubles so far! I'm sure a Nissan engineer figured that a beefier rear end is needed as the modern units that mate to an SR are huge in comparison!
