Autocross test day~ September 8th at Sonoma Raceway.

Come out and learn how to autocross on the best surface in NorCal, Sonoma Raceway's paddock!

Once again, we will break the course into separate exercise areas in the morning.
This give the drivers a chance to focus on a smaller portion of the course.

After learning the basics, we will combine each exercise into one SUPER COURSE.

There will be no shortage of seat time or fun.

Drivers will also be able to get a first hand look at the world famous road corse in a low speed parade lap format during the luchtime brake.

Each participant interested in track driving will be able to present their event wristband and ride along with select drivers on the roadcourse at race speeds!

Open to all skill levels. Expert coaching available.

$75 includes continental breakfast

If anyone attends, you are looking at potentially 2 hrs+ of seat time. Its a lot of driving. Not a bad deal for the price. A couple people on here have done it in the past and they will all agree that you are driving till you can't stand it any more.

We are looking for a few experienced people to help out. If you are interested, please contact me and we can get you set up.

That's amazing. I would 100% do this is I were within 100 miles.

If you were thinking of coming up for the NORCAL UFO event at Marina, skip that and go another 2 hrs north the following weekend for a lot more than 4 runs. Yeah, its a long trip, but going 154 less miles for 4 minutes of racing is nuts.

Alex Cote might be out for this, Dandridge will be out, a friend of mine with a Very hot Corvair is threatening to bring it out, and there could be other roadsters that find their way to the event. We are only taking 60 drivers so, like I said, lots of seat time.

Where is this event at in relation to Sacramento?? Can you come even without a car? Sounds like it would be a blast

An hour 20 or an hour and a half from Sacramento. But you wouldn't go there. Go 5 south to 505 to 80 west to 37 west (at Vallejo) and it is at 37 and 121.

It is a blast, and you can even run a smart car as long as its safe to be driven on the road. Dune buggy, you name it, its fare game to play as long as its got seat belts and you have a helmet.

From Redding its about 5 hrs and yeah, its I5 to 505, to 80, to 37 West, and then you make a hard right go down about a mile and make a left into the track. We will also be doing some 40 mph parade laps around the track during the lunch time break. Even at 40 mph, its kinda fun. It gives you a new perspective to watching a race there on TV.

I hope I can, the joint bearings are throwing my spending plans off. So much I want to do, such little time and money. Last time was a blast.

Have to have 3 point belts, right?

I don't know about that. If your car came with only lap belts, I think you might be good. Lets call that a grey area. For the big track, you would likely have issues, but for autoX I'd guess you are fine. We won't turn you away for it, but might say "for next time, see if you can get that changed."

This will be a great time! Trackmasters always runs terrific events. I will be there running my Cayman S on the track, so unless I an find a way to drive two cars to the track, the Roadster will stay at home ;-). But I will see you all there! Look for me in the black Cayman S sporting the number 62.
Cheers,
Dave

I'm not sure which car I'll have out. It really is a tough call, a solid E30 M3, or a well prepared 2l roadster with race tires. Oh decisions, decisions... I'm a little apprehensive of running the roadster that weekend simply because it will be right in the middle of a 3 week autoX fest. The last weekend in August is down in Marina, Sept 8th this event, and the following weekend I'll be back down in Marina. I need to keep the roadster in one piece simply because I'm in the best position to win the season championship that I've ever been in to win my class (I've been trying for the past 5 years.) I broke 2 axles and the transmission last year so, I don't fully trust the stock axles that are in there. I don't have time to source another axle and get it installed if I were to break one. Still, the car is SO much fun.

Will,

Does this day require us to do work/run groups like regular autocross competitions or do we just get to simply drive. i plan to make it and am trying to talk a friend into doing this for the first time in his car and i'd like to describe it correctly.

btw, my car developed what appears to be a rear main seal leak and i wasn't able to make it to the Sac scca autox in stockton last week. i didn't want to slip up the course even though it's a minor leak; enough to leave large drops at each stop if it sits for a while. i hope to have it taken care of by September though.

thanks,
leo

Yes, in the afternoon once we put the whole course together, it will be work a group, run a group.

A rear main seal leak isn't a fast one to fix. You can't do it in the car. (I've tried.) the whole motor must come out, the crank must come out and then you can reassemble. You might as well have a set of new rod and main bearings to throw in there as well as a set of timing chains since all of that will have to come apart anyway.

The other organizer's Porsche 914 leaks more than what it sounds like your car is leaking so I'd almost say don't worry about it and fix it afterwords.

I really hope to see some roadsters running. It would be awesome.
