Shelby Cal 500s

I've found a set of reasonably-priced ($175) set of Shelby Cal 500s. They are 14" 5-slot mags that came off of a 240Z. They are 0 offset, rather than the +12 that's been recommended for the Roadsters. The older tire/wheel wiki entry says to be careful because these are 0 offset, but then says some folks have used them with no problems, so I'm a bit confused.

Would these work, or will it be too much hassle to make 'em fit? Also, does anybody know if the center caps would fit in the front? It comes with lugs, which I hope would work for the Roadster, as well. Again, is that going to be a huge hassle to find lugs that will fit?

Cheers,

I had some on one of my roadsters and they fit. I do not recall any major issues with them. I did not have to use any wheel spacers as I recall and the center caps did fit over the front hubs. They look pretty good when polished up.

Lug nuts will not work - z cars are metric while roadsters are standard.

But you should be able to get 7/16 mag lug nuts easily. These shouldn't the oversize lug holes like Factory Z wheels sometimes have.

Good info! Thanks, all! If I can break away, I'm going to pick them up this weekend (they are 180 miles away).

Do the math, If the tires are good, might work out. If not, cost of gas, set of lug nuts, new tires 360 miles worth of junk food etc. Is it still a bargain? If they don't fit, you would need to resell.

I saw a very similar set last night that actually came off a roadster that could likely be had for $100 + shipping from Canada... Probably another $150 (maybe less...) The fellow who has them would probably send lugnuts and all... If you are interested, let me know and I can make a call. Tires are from 82 so would need to be removed before shipping to save weight, but could probably be at your door all in for $250... would need a buff, but they looked straight.

Canadian wheels sound like an option.

Datsun.David: I agree with dbrick, the Canadian wheels might be a great deal. But I'm a bit concerned about the import process and the taxes I might have to pay in addition to the shipping costs. :( Check with your buddy, and let me know what you find out, but international shipping always makes me a bit nervous!

I have a set of lug nuts 7/16-20 with .630 shank.
I bought them for some snowflake wheels, but wouldn't work with the Rims.
I can sell them cheap, 8 are still in package.

I would NOT advise buying zero offset wheels.

There is a roadster here in town at a wrecker that has a set of correct slotted mags. If you want to come down I would be happy to help - we can haul the whole car away and still do pretty well.

Cheers

Thanks for the info, all! Garm offered me a great deal on a set of Roadster-correct 5-slot mags from his collection, and I took him up on the offer last week. I'm working on restoring them to their historic greatness (photos to come).

BBF Roadster: Doh! I already bought a set of lugs. That's what I get for being an eager beaver. If the ones I have don't work, you'll be the first to know.

James: I'd be all about a road trip, but I don't think my boss would be. :(

Cheers,
