New Guy from Pittsburgh
Hello,
I've always had a place in my heart for the 240z. Even as a kid growing up, i dreamed of having one. As i got older my fondness started towards a 510 and then the roadsters. Time passes and I get into the bmw scene having a 1972 bmw 2002, which is just an awesomly fun car and a true family member.
As luck would have it, a 2000 popped up locally that i in the process of going to look at. A show car it is not. Much more of a driver w/some rust that will need attention.
Right now I'm not yet a 2000 owner, but certainly a troller collecting and learning as much as i possibly can in hopes of the purchase.
Thanks for your help and direction. I'm hoping the Roadster will be as much fun as the 2002 and as an added bonus a roadster!

Re: New Guy from Pittsburgh
Welcome Dave - you too will be converted.
There are a lot of threads here on what to look for and how to determine what you want.
First Low or High windshield, then 1.6 or 2 liter.
Then, get the most car you can afford the more restored the better.
There is a lot of "inventory" out there to choose from, don't jump just because one is local!
Submit pictures of the one you are looking at and you'll get some rapid and candid feedback!

Re: New Guy from Pittsburgh
Make sure you get to the Pittsburgh Grand Prix, at least 3 roadsters, maybe 5 or 6 will be there. If I get out there, you're welcome to drive mine. Jim Kearny lives in Pittsburgh, he has a nice restored 68 and knows quite a bit about the little details.
I agree, pick high or low windshield and 1600 or 2000, unless you plan to buy a few
I ended up with a 66 with a 2000 swap, seems to cover all bases. It took a few cars to make up my mind

Thanks guys. It's an event I try hard not to miss. This looks to be a 2000 high window. I agree, dont jump in because its local. Heck the 2002 was from texas!
Many thanks for the offer Dave. I DO appreciate it!!
Jim Kearney. I'll have to keep an eye out for him. I've made contactnwith another gentlemen from Pgh named Teddy Seidenfeld. Really cool guy with lots of knowledge.
I'll keep an eye out for you guys. Thanks for the warm welcome!

Re: New Guy from Pittsburgh
Welcome from a relocated yenzer. I grew up in Beaver County just north of the city and went to the U of Pitt. I moved out to Las Vegas to escape the rust that shows up on all that is driven, as well as the snow. I agree with figuring out what you want and then start looking for a specific car in that year and engine choice. I am partial to the low windshields but there are plenty of reasons to go high windshield as well. I would suggest buying the best car you can afford and then enjoying it for a while before turning to restoring it.

Ah Cool!! Glad to hear of a relo'd yinzer Brian!! I too went to Pitt and enjoyed every minute of it. Ah Vegas baby...vegas...
I too like the low winshields, but seem a little tough to find in nice shape like the cars you guy have. Right now i'm just trying to absorb as much as i can about the cars, setups, first things to upgrade, change out, etc.
The wife promised that if i can get the Roadster presentable that she'd do her best Audrey Hepburn impression...but i get to drive...like a maniac...of course..
Next time you come to the burg, we'll go get a primanti's sandwich.
Thanks for your words of wisdom and help.

Re: New Guy from Pittsburgh
welcome Dave. A freind of mine has a 2002 and loves it. I took him for a ride in my 68 roadster last year and he was talking crap for awhile. we were a few miles from home and the roadster had heard enough, started bucking and acting as if we were running out of gas. I told Rod he had better stop the trash talking and start praising the lil guy in hopes that we wouldnt have to walk home.
He complied. Andy ran perfect all the rest of the way.

Re: New Guy from Pittsburgh
Davis that is an awesome story!
Therenis quite an 02 following out West. I'm sure the roads and great weather have something to do with it. Make sure your friend is on the BMW 2002faq board. Tons of great stuff there.
Enjoy Andy!
