Datsun Matsuri. Report and album
Datsun Matsuri Show report (and more pictures than you should want to look at).
On Friday, 5-18-12, Dave McPherson (pebbles) and I drove over the Washington North Cascades Hwy to the Okanogan
and then N. to BC and Kelowna.
BEAUTIFUL day for the mountains. A bit of west side cloudiness but clear and sunny in the Mt's.
Not alot of snow at Washington Pass (5477').
Dave had his just painted roadster in his neat off road vehicle RV. No incidents on the way.
The Canadian border guards were a bit fussy but let us in!.
We had a place at a small farm RV park in the hills behind Kelowna with great views.
The Friday night meet & greet was in town and about 12 of the Datsuns showed up.
The Datsun Matsuri show was on Saturday at the Knox Mt Hill Climb just N of Kelowna. Lots of fun to watch and hear the cars go up.
The red MG GT in the pictures was quite fast (V8 power). Weather was perfect.
We were not able to get all the Datsuns together but all was good.
We were part of the Hill Climb car show of over 100 cars of all types.
Matsuri show Datsun car count was 45 (I believe) including 14 roadsters.
Daryl from BC and the 311s site arrived with his much worked on roadster. Good to see him and his many engine mods on the road!
A rare 1965 Nissan Cedric was on a trailer. A BIG project and the owner has been collecting parts for years.
(not available at your Nissan dealer).
It came with the H20 motor, 1900 cc displacement.
Dave McP. had his brand new VTO wheels on his roadster. I wore my DROPS T Shirt to "show the flag".
At about 3:30 we had awards and random prizes.
Mitch Jensen got "best roadster" with his excellent 68 SR20 conversion.
Foreigner, Dave, got the top random prize of the new carbs from Z-Therapy.!
Those Canadians are so polite they did not even complain of a fix when I drew Dave name!
Show was over about 4 and we visited and helped supervise starter repairs on a newly restored 67.5 2000.
No Matsuri show participant were injured during the repairs using a sketchy jack, even without a safety officer!.
Hardy luck participant award goes to our local Z guy, Marty, who was on the way to the show in his twin turbo
and had a hat trick of bad luck.
1. Got to Bellingham and had to go back south to replace a lost ATM card.
2. Then a slashed tire from road debris meant a tire replacement stop.
3. In BC, fairly close to Kelowna, he had a serious engine problem (run bearings?!) that shut him down.
Some of his show Z friends helped get a truck/trailer rental to get him back to WA.
On Sunday a short and long drive was arranged by the local roadster folks and we had a fine fun route with about 12 Datsuns.
As the weather was deteriorating pebbles and I went for the short drive and left Kelowna about noon.
I went South down the Okanogan Valley to Wenatchee and back over Snoqualmie Pass and escaped the rain until North Bend.
This was the first Datsun Matsuri show and it was a great success due to much work and great promotion by Datsundave
(Dave Meyer from Edmonton) and his wife, Caroline. We all know there is a woman behind all the successful Datsun Events!
Thanks to all the Canadian Datsun folks who were so friendly and accommodating to us foreigners.
THANKS to Dave and Caroline.

Ted;
An excellent writeup, and you captured the highlights very well. Did you happen to catch a photo of the purple 510 running a Chev 350? I don't know what its time was, but I know the guy who built it also built up a roadster with a 350 in it as well. Apparently it was sold to someone near Vancouver BC

One of many advantages to being retired.
I can spend all day Monday posting about the weekend show!
(besides it was raining today and I could not clean up the Fairlady.)

Re: Datsun Matsuri. Report and album
Very nice car, and so correct it seems. Mine was already so modified when I got it 25yrs ago there is no way I could ever get her back that close to stock.

Re: Datsun Matsuri. Report and album
The originality dorks can at least respect a great deal of hard work. Arnold's car is REALLY nice and he drove it across the Rocky Mountains and back solo (900 mile round trip)!
I was too chicken to take mine as the forecast was calling for snow... My 69 made it there... and back with a little help. Picking up the refurbished gas tank this afternoon...

I think that was the red one. Although it had been painted. There must be one somewhere.
