Long lost roadster-a-holic

Post by Roman »

Howdy! Some of you may remember me, some may not. I used to be quite active in southern Ca circles

Before this site started I had a website called roadsterregistry and was compiling a list of all the roadsters I could find. Steve was starting this site and I gave him all the info turning over the hat, as it were. I am proud to say that at least a third of the pictures on this site are due to my efforts.

I have owned 6 roadsters and at one time owned 3 drivable cars. Never anything exceptionally sweet or restored but runners.

I wrecked a 67.5, then sold my 70 spl as I went traitor and turned towards the dark side. Yup, I abandoned the roadsters for a Porsche 911.

Sadly, life and the economic down turn............not sure if it was a recession or depression, forced me to sell the Porsche, now leaving me sportscar-less with the exception of my 66 salvage title "Primer King", which has been sitting for over a decade. So for all practical purposes, it was a depression.........at least for me.

Well, I have returned to hopefully change that........an automatic Honda Civic (family car) kind of sucks.

Cheers,
Roman

Roman,
I still have the carved wood handbrake cover you made me for my FJ20 car.

It never made it on the handbrake...too nice.

Anything I can do to help you get back into roadsters.....let me know.

So, they finally released you huh! Man, Bob's got a good memory! Did ya get a haircut?

Welcome back from the Dark side. See what happens when you leave? No more soup for you! I don't think it was the economic meltdown that caused the issues; it was your selling of the Roadster that led to the downturn! It upset the balance of the world... glad you're back!

Thanks. We'll see. The 66 is a nightmare right now. It may end up being just a parts car.

I do however have a very strong powerplant in it. I put in a 67.5 motor that was rebuilt at 76K and comes with almost brand new Z therapy SU carbs :D

Can't believe you found that. :D A day of infamy for sure. But then again, how many times does a police sgt drive you to Starbucks, and tell the barista, "let him have anything he wants"

In hindsight, it was cheaper than a lawsuit on the city for false arrest.

It never is...........favorable...........but then again look at the company I keep. Hell, I had to stay gone just to recover my reputation.

Thanks for the welcome, hope to be driving again soon.

I am no longer in LA, but by the lake in Shasta..........Awesome roads up here!!!!!!

Hi Phil good to see you. I made another one of those handbrake handles..in solid rosewood. Too bad I have nothing worthy of putting it on.

Roman, I hang out with Mark and Sid, so the company I keep is in serious doubt at best.

Thanks Greg. It has been a dark journey. I sure do wish I still had my 70. Nothing in the way of being a showpeice, but everything on that car was sorted out. While maybe not the prettiest it was a no issues car.
I actually didn't sell the car per se.

A buddy had the 911 targa and sold it to me on a cash/ roadster deal. We agreed to a buy back as soon as I came up with the balance. Then he wanted to have me build him a guitar..sweet!!!! :smt023

No money out of pocket and I get my SPL back AND have a 911 :D fast forward a month, the guitar is almost completed, and he dies unexpectedly. :smt010

He was a big car guy and had about 15 cars at his house. The people handling his estate shadily got titles to everything. :Tosser:

Buy the time I found out, I had 2 weeks to come up with the money to keep the car out of lien proceedings. Couldn't do it in that time frame.......so off to ebay it went. :smt013

Sure do wonder who that car ended up with. :?:
