Solvang Caravan . . . from the East

Post by sfdaugherty »

Ok it's not all the way from the east coast . . . starting in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Buddy is taking his 68 1600 (my Dad's car) and I'm taking my 69 2000 (hopefully the SR20 will be ready next year). Buddy's brother-in-law, Doug, will be joining us. We will be towing both cars with two trucks (I know . . . we're wimps). Ron Dickson will be joining us in Williams, Arizona driving his 2000 "Vic". Vic was in a fire and Ron has preserved the Burn Victim look but has the car running well. I saw Vic at the Williams show last October and it is a contender for "Diamond in the Rough". We will end up in Riverside at Chris Breyer's house to drop the cars and will join the SoCalROC cars for the remainder of the drive to Solvang.

Here is our route and estimated times if anyone wants to join us.

Thursday 4/26
Depart Albuquerque 6:30 MST (Daylight Saving Time - DST) on west I-40
Arrive Williams, AZ ~11:30 MST (no DST) continue on I-40 west
Arrive Barstow, CA ~ 15:30 PST head south on I-15 to 215 south
Arrive Riverside, CA ~ 17:30 PST drop cars and head to hotel

Friday 4/27
Join the SoCalROC caravan at Chris' house in Riverside - Let the fun begin!

We will be running 75+ MPH on I-40 but will have to slow down when we hit California because of the lower 55 MPH speed limit for towed vehicles. If you're interested in joining us along the route; shoot me a PM and I'll send you my cell phone number so we can hook up.

Well the caravan (all two cars) made it to Riverside only two hours late after enduring a SNOWSTORM in Flagstaff Arizona. We have pictures to prove it

Why did I waste all that time waxing the car?

We'll be joining the SoCalROC group tomorrow am after getting up early to wash the cars.

Vic wasn't able to attend but we had lunch with Ron who showed us his new 1960 Datsun sedan. Cool car and in great shape. We didn't spend as much time looking as we wanted to but the weather was rotten.
