I am almost ready.
One problem solved!
I have been chasing a fluctuating fast idle problem.
Both the EGR and fast idle control valve were leaking vacuum(I thought I had plugged them).

Because of possible rain on Thursday I will be heading north on Friday.

Anyone want to leave early from the bowling alley?

Are you just heading up with the SOCALROC group now?

That's what might happen....That's the fall back, fall back...fall back plan...LOL

Were I do like to go with the group....it's always been too slow for me and I was hoping someone would like to take some of the back roads. Maybe we could stop at the hamburger joint highlighted on DDD in Santa Barbara or take 33 to 166 on the other side of the Santa Ynez Mountains.

There are some great twisties up there, and Phil knows them well, some REALLY gorgeous roads that almost could be described as "trails", but you probably want to do do these the day AFTER a show-n-shine, not before.

If there are any 1500s we normally keep it at 55-60....Not a problem if there is traffic.

We have broken into two packs in the past....its been several years since I have experienced the Thrill of the Pack.

Things may have changed.

Phil, I will be pulling an open trailer with a little red roadster and stopping in LA to pick up my new motor on the way to Solvang. Due to speed limit laws I will be pretty slow...But, I will be leaving early from San Diego, Friday morning.

Well if Chris Breyer from SoCalROC is leading the pack, we won't be going too slow! You can't keep a pack together at speed with the traffic we'll hit.

I put together a speed chart (just for fun):

1500s 55-60
1600s 60-65
1600 strokers 65-70
2000s 65-70
swappers (non-turbo) 70-75
swappers (turbo) 75-80
Bart Desirello 100-110 :D

I'm curious how many caravans will be gathering at Woodlake bowl and leaving at 12:00. I expect 8-10 cars will start from Riverside (Buddy and I will be in that group).

I like the way you think.....My swapper car is not a turbo, but even if it was, I would not be averaging more than 70-75....I did see >5K in fifth one year....

In the past one early group, one speed limit group and one enjoy the ride group.

I know our cars can go much faster but I like the thrill of being in a line of roadsters heading up to Solvang. I'm in it for the fun not the speed.

On my first trip to Solvang, my old engine with the stretched timing chain started to miss on the way up from Woodland Hills. It would run OK at 6000 feet in Albuquerque but, after putting about 500 miles on it (I drove it to Arizona and then trailered it to Riverside), it didn't like the lower altitude in CA. I had picked up a rider at Woodlake Bowl and was afraid he was going to have to push us! Unfortunately we were alone  , the pack had left me behind. Hopefully my new engine with new timing components will run like a top.

When I drove to Williams, AZ in October I followed a Datsun 1200 on the trip out. He was probably doing 60 MPG most of the way. I was just idling along behind him. It wasn't a fast trip but it was very quiet (for a roadster) and I got right at 30 MPG.

On the way back, I was on my own, and ran about 80 MPH but only got 26 MPG.

By the way, I'm filling my car up today with New Mexico gas. You guys in California pay entirely too much for go juice!

I have been at the tail of the pack many times, and I prefer that to being the leader...I can always catch up

My car has very high gearing (set-up for cruising) with 15x205r50, 3.7 axle and .75 OD. That's 2500 RPM at 60 or under 3000 at 70.
