I came across a 1967 1600 road test in the May '67 issue of Road and Track.

Steve has loaded it on the Tech Wiki in the "Manuals" section where it can be found at:

http://www.311s.org/PDFs/RT%20May%20196 ... 201600.pdf

There are some cool pics of a '67 SPL including the interior with rubber shifter boot and spherical shifter knob and also an under hood shot showing an old style battery, placement of stickers and a plastic washer bottle (I thought early cars had the kangaroo bag, or was that only '67.5?).

Happy Reading.

Very cool thanks for posting Mike.

It's hard to tell if it's a 66 or a 67 1600. And the graphic of the "see through" car at the end has a 1500 transmission... so maybe the engine bay photo is from a later car (stock photo???)

Cheers
James

Ok. That is $36,000 in Today's money (for two). I'm sure we can find them for you once you send the money.

I've always heard people say these were cheap, throwaway toys when they came out. They were not as cheap as people thought. about as cheap and throwaway as a one year old Miata...

For comparison, a loaded 67 427 Corvette was right about $5000.00, similar Corvette today is about $50-100K. The Roadster pricing at the 10-20x increase puts it between my Wife's Hyundai Veloster and a loaded up 370Z.
1969 mgb $2650.00. OD was a $100 option. Hardtop was $150.
TR4a in 1966/67/ was $2850. Austin Healy 3000 was $3995.00.
