MSD with points

Hello, I have a few ignition questions to cover in one post.
Just wondering if there are any roadsters out there using points to activate a 6al MSD box with blaster 2 coil. If so does the Ballist resister come into play in the wiring. Plus is there a Plug wire Set to order or will I have to cut to length.
I also have a remote box dizzy from a late 70's pickup that I converted to fit a 1600 and I may try it out to go EI to activate the MSD. I did the conversion in the early 90's with the help from a very large box of other Datsun Dizzy parts from a 510 owner. I recently found the remote box and Dizzy. Everything seams to line up as for distributer's bottom tag and rotor position towards #1. I do not know if I would need to run the remote box or not while using a MSD box.
Any input would be very helpful.

You are in luck! I have a MSD6AL on my car and I am still using points. I also have a blaster 2 coil. I can't remember what wires go where but I can find out tomorrow. If you run the MSD and the blaster coil, you don't need the balast resistor, but I don't know how to bypass it. As for correct plug wires, I think you will have to cut your own. The good news is that if you buy a custom wire set for a V8, you will have enough to make 4 sets of wires!.

Hello,
I got my wires figured. Thanks to eBay I got a new set of 8.5mm super conducter wires for my setup. It was set #31159 and you trim to fit.
As for the MSD 6al wiring with the blaster coil. I was confused about the ballist resistor being used while using the Blaster 2 coil only as a replacement coil with points. It looks like with the MSD box it hooks up directly to the coil so I can give the system the full 12 volts bypassing the Ballist Resistor on the firewall. If it is different let me know.

I had to run mine through the balast resistor because I cant figure out how to bypass the resistor and still get it to run. If anyone can clue me in on how to do that, it would be great.

Will, Once (if) I figure it out I will let you know. I am going to try to hook things up this weekend but it maybe next week until I try to start the car back up since I will be waiting for my wires to show up.
By the way where did you mount the MSD unit and did you install the coil upright or horizontal.
I believe there are 2 12v wires from the ignition switch. One from the starter post for the full 12v at startup and one ignition that goes through the ballist so save the points from frying.
The MSD instructions show the small Red wire goes to a switched 12v wire so a jump wire to cross over the ballist might be the only option. Did you have to hook both wires that went to the + side of the coil up to the small red wire so the starter would work.

After further review, I was wrong on last post.
I looked this morning and there is only one wire from the firewall connecting to the + side of the coil. For some reason I thought my coil had a double post for 2 wires.
The 2 wires from the ignition switch must connect inside the firewall after one of them goes through the ballist resister.
By the way I am dealing with my 68 1600 now with a u20/5spd.
