If you go to a 3 piece side rod, i.e. 2 ball joints and threaded rod, you can orient the ball joints to match that of the OEM single piece side rod.

Tie rod ends centre to centre 335 mm, just over 13 inches

Thread revival. Test fit a tie rod today and it was east to get on. Bought a thread die and cut more threads on the center rod and will cut it to length.

If you don't care about looking original, lower cost, and want some extra adjustment then these seem to be the ticket.

Its very important that both tie rods be the same length.

These tie rods come from the 510. Looking at 510 I see it has a fixed length center link.

I have no expertise in steering and alignment so can you explain why you wouldn't use the adjustments in the tie rods to get a finer tuned alignment? I have I believe the 620 center link which is a bit beefier than the roadster one and is adjustable on both ends.

Its possible to change the tie rod length to adjust the alinement, but it changes both the toe and Ackermann of the steering.

Its a little hard to visualize and explain, but I will try.

The steering and idler arms are like hands of two clocks (One 12 and 7, the other 12 and 5) that the 12 hands move in synchronization. With the tie rods the same length and only one adjustment the angles of the arms for the straight forward position will be mirror images of each other. As you rotate the steering arm the leverage on one side increases and decreases on the other side. This causes one wheel to turn more the other (Ackermann Steering). If one tie rod is longer than the other the idler and steering arms will not be mirror images of each other at the straight position. This will give you more Ackermann left to right. While this might be OK if slight, someone always goes to the extreme.

If the center link is fixed and the tie rods are adjustable it still important that both tie rod lengths are the same...i.e. you can't just adjust one.
This is checked with a turn table on each wheel and rotating the wheel a specific number of degrees and checking the other side rotation is within spec.

Since this thread came back to life:

A heads up that the Moog DS846 (Datsun 620 centerlink) is NLA. Rock Auto shows a couple other options from Mevotech and Centric for $40 and $25, respectively.

Rare Parts sells P/N 26262, a complete center link for a Datsun 620 @ $124

I've been running the 510 end links for a couple years now with no problems.

Those are both vendors here, Rising sun racing, Datsun Don is clear. Now the other is located in Northridge CA, and uses a blue background in their pictures, I wonder who??

Yes the blue back round is mine. We are not selling a Rare parts 620 drag link as stated in the thread. Our center drag link was made specifically for the roadster with forging numbers in the cast parts are not the same part as what Don Morrell is selling.

Bringing this thread back around as I am in the process of rebuilding my front suspension.
I have reviewed this thread and have a few questions.

No Luck on the MOOG parts on RockAuto or other sources - some said OOS and others had them but they were in England - as listed in the thread but I did find some things for Datsun 510 / 620 from Rare Parts and Duralast on AutoZone.

I am inclined and do buy from our vendors and see that several of them have parts available but the price is pretty out there compared to some of these options - IF they work.


Do any these parts work on a roadster without modification?
Do they / can they be modified to work?
If so, what needs to happen.
If this was your car, what would you recommend / buy / currently use?
