carb leaks

Post by jwilk »

In getting ready for the weekend I've noticed that my primary carberator is leaking gas out of the what I call the air vent bolt at the top of the carberator that is screw in near above where the float pin is. It is a bolt about 1 and half inch long with a hole in it and I guess its purpose is for venting. Anyway gas is shooting out of the hole. I have lifted the lowered the little flip tab to lower the float with no luck. Any idea's what is going on ?

One of three things.

1)The float may have "sunk" which means it needs replacing.(if you hear gas sloshing around inside the float when you shake it - out of the carb of course - it is shot) that is only applicable to the brass floats as far as I know.

2) You have trash on your float valve - they are easy to disassemble and clean - just don't lose those springs!!

3) your needle and seat (in the float valve) are worn and need replacing.

Simple stuff to fix.
