Was there ever an official Datsun "oil cooler" addon?

Definitely a factory option. I have one on my 69. There was a thread last year with a pic of all the nissan comp stuff for the roadster... Not sure how to find it...

Is that a cold air induction set up in the middle of the pic? Sure looks like an air box or filter set up for solex type carbs.

I think I saw a diagram in the 68 parts manual in the Wiki section. It showed the competion oil cooler and how it fit in.

That is the aircleaner assembly. It could be ducted for cold air though the way it is made. It may have been intended for such. IIRC, the carbs in the photo are Weber DCOE carbs - same footprint for the intake and aircleaner, so it would work on Mikuni carbs as well. Good luck finding one. I would love to get one as well (along with the appropriate 40DCOE webers - trade my 40 Mikunis for them!)

The oil filter sandwich adapter from a Rover V8 fits the Datsun base nicely. My only worry with these cooler setups is that there is alot of oil to pump through the lines cooler and filter before it gets to the engine on a cold start, a few seconds more without oil every start up.. Systems with a thermal bypass seem to make more sense, but are not, of course, original.

I've looked at summit racing in their sandwich adapters section. does anyone know which one will fit on the r16 or u20 oilfilter mounts. the have thermal switches and could be an easy bolt on for improved cooling.

Whoa, wait... Does the original U20 oil pan not have that baffle? The engine I have had a brand new oil pan, with a baffle that looked exactly like that. I assumed it was a stock replacement! Also... Someone should do a write up on the oil cooler install if anyone figures out easy to source parts. I really want one, and I have the BRE spoiler with the center vent that would be perfect for one.

when Nissan comp was doing a clean up in the early nineties I got 15 new comp oil cooler kits for the early cars with the cannister oil filter. Oh, how I wish I still had those...

Hi Ross, I wish you still had some as well. I received the New Tail Light Assemblies and they look great !!

Only one had a lot of I think Cosmoline on it but seemed to clean off most of it ok. The others were all clean when received
