Don't mind me - I'm just hanging out in the corner...

I know it is proper Netiquette to make an introductory post when joining a forum, but I've been dreading this...
Hi. I'm John from Dallas. Nice to meet y'all.
I don't own a Fairlady yet, but I'm actively looking - and once I find the one, I'm going to feel REALLY stupid. I just don't grok car. I'm smart enough to know that I'm highly uncomfortable driving any vehicle I've done more than put gas in. I feel insane enough as it is looking for a 45-year-old car.
I'm also tired of my econobox. It's perfectly cromulent for commuting, but I want something I can enjoy driving. I think I'm getting a head start on my mid-life crisis

I'm also contrarian enough to not want the same thing as everyone else - and the first time I saw a picture, I was hooked.
So, yeah, that's me. I've been reading up on everything I can get my hands on (as is my wont), trying to immerse myself and ask semi-knowledgeable questions (or at least keep the forehead-slappers to a minimum). Please be patient.

Welcome all will be happy to help you sort out your insane desires - but I wouldn't look for a cure as we all have the same affliction!

You picked the right place and the right car. Part of the reason I love my car is the fact that I can work on it without needing computer skills or a degree in some scientific field. The basic engines are pretty easy to deal with and there is a bit of room under the hood to do it.
I've found the people here to be VERY helpful and if there is a dumb question, we have probably all asked it ourselves at some point.

I'd be far better off if a car required computer skills. I'm much more comfortable with a keyboard in my hand than I am a wrench...

It's not too scary, buy the best car you can afford from someone reputable, maintain what you're comfortable with and have the rest done by someone who does know. Pretty good roadster population in your area for guidance if needed.
It seems you've read "Stranger in a Strange Land",
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grok so we should all seem pretty normal

Welcome to the forum John,
I'm down in Houston and there are a few roadsters down here. I know I have a "surplus" of cars right now and there are a few others that might be for sale. Too bad you missed buying Deuces cars - he sold two of them for an amazing price!
I agree, you should buy the best car you can afford - rather than getting one that has been sitting for a while and needs a lot of work. In the long run it costs less to buy a good one.
Cheers
James

Welcome John, I'm not terribly far down the road from you. Just a tad east in Lindale. I have come across a few on Craigslist in our area, but very few. Most of them were kinda rough. At any rate, welcome to the fray and good luck in your search. I am an infrequent poster, so you may not "hear" any more from me for a while. Not that I would be much help anyway. LOL!! Ciao!
