Im playing with my old duel master brake cylinder and cant get the rear piston out? I removed the two hex screws and the front or closest to the fire wall is longer then the rear (see pic) is this normal?
I was thinking that part of the screw is broke off in the housing and thats why i cant get piston out.
Also i need to order a new master any ideas on where to go.

Ive found out that the short screw is correct, but i still cant figure out how to get the piston out. It does move in and out a little when i push on it with a long screwdriver but will not slid out like the first piston did.
Has anyone done this before?

Hit the open end on a bloke off wood to force the piston out, if nothing is still holding it in.

I have tried that, it really feels like something is stoping it. when i push it in with the screwdriver and let the spring push it back out (about 1 inch) i hear and feel it stop on something.

Ok. After sawzalling an older duel master cylinder apart i have found that if the rear piston doesnt come out your screwed!!! its rusted in and will never come out.
Time to buy a new one

What happens when you take the 2 fittings out of the bottom? I assume you have the inside snap out of the back....some do.

I got it out!!
With nothing to loose i soaked the inside with some fresh oil and started beating the H out of it, after about the hundreth smash on a piece of wood the piston slid out. To bad after all the work the cylinder is pitted...

Pitted. Was that what held it in?

There are companies (someone will chime in.... Linda?) that will bore and stainless sleeve it for you, avoiding future pitting. Not outrageous prices either as I remember.

They can do masters, brakes, rear cylinders etc with a SS sleeve to eliminate rust. I used them for my stock brakes and was pleased with their service. There is a brake thread where I posted their work.
I think it is also a smart option for cars that don't get driven much, or that aren't maintained well enough.
