Datsun/Nissan at the Glen

Just rolled in from the Grand Prix weekend at Watkins Glen. What a fantastic show of great roadsters! I think the count was 42 in the Tour de Marque. Driving the track with all your roadsters was great fun.

I was happy to see that there are a lot of great roadsters still running strong here on the East Coast and central US.

Thanks Elaine for the great extra curricular activities. BBQ was best ever.

Added some pics

Ditto on having a great time. I just checked the online photo company "digidids.com" and found that they only have the pictures of the old course. Did anyone get the address of the company that took the pictures at WGI on the track? I saw the photos on display on saturday, but thought I would check them out when I got home, now I find I can't do that, little help please.
thanks, Dave Roberts

We had a blast, great people and events, as usual.
I ran 2 or 3 laps on Watkins glen International, without a hitch, but only made one lap of the old course, ran up the first big hill from the starting line chasing a 240Z and doing well until I lost power and ended up limping into a side road behind George H who also had problems on the first lap. I clogged a fuel filter (again).
Datsun1500 and crew were kind enough to drive by and signal he was also on Lap 1, but didn't use their index finger :smt098
I got the filter changed and we waited followed George out, jumping back into a gap in the pack on the second lap. George was having some carburetor issues, but it ran well if he kept his foot in it, so he did just that, with some heroic driving around the Stone Bridge. I followed, slightly sideways to keep up. The local police seemed to take notice, but did not follow. George stayed on it, I followed and we caught up with the rest and both finished the lap and parked. Some how it's more fun if you're not 100% sure you're going to finish.

It's ironic, I put 1000+ miles on my car this week, in horrible weather, 32 MPG, didn't miss a beat.and it had only one issue, the fuel filter on the Old Course, which I guess was better than having it clog on the current WGI track or in a downpour.

As discussed with a few people at the awards dinner,
I set up a Photobucket site,
account name: watkinsglen2011
password datsun

If people want to upload, there is a general album, and you can also make an album. I plan to upload everything, never know if one of my misses got someone elses' car.
Please log out when you finish

This site has the old course pictures, where did the track photos go?

If you look at the pictures from 2010,or older, they do not include the track photos.
I looked at the WGI site, but didn't see any mention. I was hoping someone who
bought a photo from the booth got there card, and site.

The guy did say that he would have all the photo's loaded by Monday.........hopefully they are still to come on this website. I also thought it was all the same photographer.

Great times at the Glen as usual, too bad I had to leave early Saturday morning before the Show and Shine.

Great to see such so many Roadsters like Joe said 42 alone at the WGI and probably another 8 or so others..................50 a great showing!!!!!!!!!!!

Car ran like a champ all the way home.........Thanks again Joe for the octane!

I had a great time at the Glen this year and would like to thank the Halsteds for putting on a great show.
I spent a year getting my car running because everyone last year made me promise to bring a roadster.
I got it running a week before we left for the Glen. Has a few issue once there but my car woke up once we got on the race track. It ran like a scalded cat I kept up to a couple of 240z's that do regular track time. Unfortunately I only made one lap of the old course but once I got it going I kept my foot into it with DBrick in my rear view mirror.
We had an awesome roadster turn out for the Datsun/Nissan show. By far the most were roadsters.

Hey, who said you could take pictures of my car!! Ha ha. Its neat to see my car lined up in some of the photos. What a great time my wife and I had this year. Although we didn't make the long drive in the roadster (turned out to be almost 10 hours with the flooding detours towing a car dolly) we did get all laps in on both tracks and pushed the little 1600 as hard as I could to keep up with the Zs and 2000s. Man, I need a 2000...... Although the 1600 did run flawlessly if I do say so myself. What a rewarding feeling taking something that was destined for the scrap pile two years ago to something like this and driving it like we all could. For those still working on theirs, keep pushing on, the time will come.

The DRONEs are a great group of fellas too and it was great to meet so many extended Datsun fanatics and spend time on the Datsun Hill watching the cars fly by. I'll try and post photos later.

Thanks to everyone for making my first, and definitely not the last trip to the Glen the most fun had in some time. We'll be there next year for sure.

How about a real photo of you and the wife.... from the morning line up, you were right behind me. Did you buy a track photo? I saw mine on display, but thought I would get it off the web page, but don't have the WGI photog co. address.
