just trying to make my peace...

hello,

my name is marc.

i have been a part of datsuns for some time and logged onto 311's.org for some time too. a while back i had made a post on a parts request for a roadster hood but i was being very vague and not to the point as to a specific year. ultimately to me, it looked bad and unprofessional so im here to make my peace.

i wanted to admit i was looking for a roadster hood to graft into a 320 hood for a different look. however, i realized at the point of my request that i was wanting to do something i myself was unsure about. i dont have welding equipment and really didnt know what someone would charge me to get that request done. i then thought it would be cool to have the hood as wall art in the event i ever got a chance to purchase a roadster and use the hood as a back up or eventually make the the roadster/320 hood conversion. life too was a factor as i have minimal finances to accomplish this goal with a child and continuing education.

so this goes out the the ones who remember that post because to some, this is news or nothing to you. i want to aplogize for not being clear. my dreams and goals remain the same for what i would like to do to my build but i assure you i will be more tactful about it. i did not mean to be vague on the issue or request. in the example of the nl320, many purests do not want to have the bed chopped for air bag set-ups because it comprimises the vehicle and history of that vehicle and i took that concept, after the fact, when i made the request for the roadster hood as i tremendously respect the roadster culture and love these types of vehicles -and- would hate to see one chopped up for some sort of custom job.

i would hate for my daughter to not account for her actions so i am here to own up to a mistake in the eyes of some and say "hey", "my bad". i am not asking for forgiveness or to make any friends with what i wrote but merely just to say my peace to go on.

mods, you can delete or do as you please with this post but to the rest, thank you for your time. peace.

-marc

p.s. i still plan on looking for parts and see other peoples roadsters n' stuff. im just letting this issue out and putting it to rest.

Cool enough - I think had you been upfront about it to start with, like you are here, you'd have gotten support and help.
I have no problem with what you wanted to do - it sounds interesting.
Like you always hear, it's not what you asked for, it's how you asked it!

I'd like a bagged 320 :) Or any 320...

No worries. I sold the scoop off of a rusty roadster hood to a guy with a dime - he was going to graft it on. I don't know if it ever got done. The nice thing about Roadster hoods is that the front end usually goes to crap first, but the scoop generally survives. Putting it to good use on another car is a good way to recycle.

Marc-
Not that my opinion is worth anything, but I think it took some guts and some pride-swallowing for you to make this latest post. That is a great (really!) example to set for your daughter. Our children learn from what we do at least as much as what we say, and you showed her the correct way. Good job! (really!)

I got the impression from your first posting that you didn't want anybody to know what you were up to in case someone did the same thing, but "beat you to it." I don't think the folks on here do that.

Be that as it may, you're more than welcome to post what you need, or what you have, or how you did something on the Roadster. I've looked around at other car-oriented forums, and this one is, by far, the most mature of the bunch. We don't practice our "playground" words here, and mostly we respect each others's opinions. We have our moments, but it all works out in the end. :smt023

Well said DatsunBucky!

The reason for the forum's sharing and tolerant culture is most of its members are older than their 45+ year old cars and have the same problems, leaks and rust.

Marc, keep expanding the Datsun experience!

There is a better chance on this board of someone saying "I have a hood here that will bolt right on and already has the modification you need"

They will then go on to tell you the story of finding it many years ago, keeping it in case someone needed it, moving twice and taking it along, giving it away to a buddy that had a 320 and wanted to put it on, getting it back 3 years later when said buddy sold the truck, etc

thank you for your honest words and honest criticism. i respect the datsun community and the people who own and restore and drive datsuns. we are a small community and it was just the right thing to do.

That would have been my expectation too, people practically begging you to take this hood with the front bent or rusted, but a good scoop, that they couldn't bring themselves to throw out.

Does all this love mean, I can finally tell people on the forum, about my 3 cylinder, front drive Geo Metro swap, that I want to do to my Roadster? :p Hey, don't laugh when gas hits $8/gal, who will be the smart one, huh???

By the time you get it done, 2 cylinder LPG will be the way to go. LOL

BTW, I am lucky to get 2,000 miles on my car...so That's only $800/yr for fuel..I spend more on change orders ;-0

From a smashed hood. On a Datsun 510 hood now.

and I bet the Geo metro alternator is real small, which is going to draw interest.
Hyper-miler Datsun? bring it on, I have been wondering about the performance of an SD-22 diesel roadster for quite a while, although to reduce drag you'd have to go with "brooklands" wind screens.
Is that ElCo hood for real or a photoshop? Most tasteful Camino hood I have seen, that cowl induction look is overdone, way overdone.
We have gone way OT (Off Topic) now, I think it is time to declare peace made and start an "unconventional swapped parts" topic.
