New guy with a 69 datster!

Post by Frisky311 »

Hey everyone. I just acquired a 1969 datsun roadster and now I have the daunting task of the restore/rebuild. It's straight and 97% rust free. And from what I could tell there is 90 % of the parts I need to put it back together. The guys I got it from just wanted it gone so it was a simple trade for a dirt bike I barely ride. So hopefully I will get to know some peeps on here cause I plan on needin advice. Lol.

Welcome to the forum and to the roadster world! It sounds like you made a pretty good trade.

If you can, post some pictures.

Definitely post pictures and fire away with your questions!
Welcome aboard! I hear it's really tough to find rust free examples in your neck of the woods - so congratulations!!

That I can almost guarantee. I don't think there has been a problem that the great folks on this forum have not helped solved. The dumbest question, is the one never asked. Enjoy that car!

just a quick question, whats the easiest way to post pics on here? And THanks for all the welcomes everyone. Unfortunatly I haven't gotten a chance to start on the rebuild, or rather teardown, as I have a wedding to be the groom in this weekend. As far as finding rustfree roadys up here, well they just don't exist. And the guy I got it from just really wanted it gone, he had big plans and told me that he did the frame already. Which didn't make me cringe till I got it home and had a better look at it, just a quick spray bomb. And he didn't even clean up the frame first. Time to pull the engine and tranny and pull the body off as soon as I get back from the honey moon!
Once again thanks for the welcomes and for the future help.

Congratulations on the wedding! Does the wife know about your Datsun Mistress???

As far as posting pictures, when you hit reply, scroll down a bit below the text area you respond in. You'll see a "Browse" box, click that, find the file on you rPC, and then double click remember to select "add the file". Repeat as necessary, when done, hit submit and you are good to go!

That appears to be an early 68. (gauges with chrome inner trim make it a 68, and the fuel bowl mount rather than a filter clip make it early)

Well that's good to know. As I have said I am new to the roadster world. I have learned that they were often registered as the year they were sold rather than the year they were made. That is if I'm not mistaken. Thanks for the info. I'll start researching 68's instead of 69's. Lol

Now to really mess with you. Someone could have swapped the body onto a 69 frame. The VIN will tell the tale.

Haha yeah I guess only time and tearing into it will tell hey. Just so I know the vin is on the frame on the passengers side just behind the engine mount right?
