Valve seat

I finally got around to pulling my head. I thought a valve had been damaged, but it turned out that the #1 exhaust valve seat slipped out and was getting hit by the piston. I was just wondering if this is uncommon and if anyone may have an idea why?

Thanks

I would say that it is not a common occurrence but does happen from time to time. Improper seating of the seat when the head was redone. An inproperly tuned engine runnning too hot can do funny things to a motor as well. I would get the entire head looked over real well when you take it into the shop.
