Hello from SF Bay Area - Near Berkeley

Post by tli2001a »

Hello Everyone!

I recently found out about these Datsun Roadsters and fell in love immediately. I picked up a 67 1600 (SPL31104980) as a project car, and also as a learning opportunity. I am a rookie in every possible sense (first time Datsun owner, first time vintage car owner, haven't touched anything under a hood in years), so expect to see a lot of questions from me... starting now!

Can anyone recommend a good place to take the car to get checked out, somewhere in the San Francisco bay area, and preferably in the East Bay?

Here's a pic of her the day I bought her:

Thanks in advance for the help and wealth of knowledge I'll hopefully receive from this forum! :D

Regards,

Tony

Welcome to the community.

I don't know if he's still around (this was over 10 years ago) but there was a good roadster mechanic named John Kooh (not sure of the last name spelling) in Oakland.

Cheers

Welcome aboard! There are a ton of Roadster owners in your area. I'm sure one of them will chime in. I believe that Mike Young isn't too far and would likely be one of the the best possible sources for an overview of the car as well as repairs, parts and advice!

Mike Young is occasionally at his place in San Francisco.

You can reach Mike:

Also, check in with the guys at http://zcargarage.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; they may be able to point you in the right direction.

I can't recommend Mike Young enough. Super knowledgeable and has 6 of any part you could possibly need. Get a hold of him for sure.

Bring that thing up to Napa sometime. My 68 1600 was my first Datsun/vintge car too, great little car.

Welcome!
I almost bought that roadster 12years ago!
I will try and dig up some pics

Joek is in Berkeley and a few other roadster owners
Like others suggested, Mike Young is one to visit(and close)
We did a fun run through the Oakland hills back in '04...we should do it again!

Hey thanks for all the help! I've reached out to Mike Young (no response yet, maybe he's on vacation?) so hopefully I'll be able to get some help soon. Hopefully afterwards I'll be confident enough to take her to Napa.

Alvin I think I saw your roadster pop up a lot while getting inspiration for what to do with mine. Great work! And if you happen to have information about this car 12 years ago please share! The previous owner only had her for 3 years, so I don't have any information before that.

If there are any events coming up, I would love to see some other roadsters out there. If 04 was the last event, it seems like the bay is long over due. Is the BADROC still active? It looks like it was last updated in 09.

we've done plenty of meets/fun runs since then
the last one I organized was 7/24/10, but lots of car shows and get togethers happen so check the fun run section often!

We need to do another Napa area fun run. We can even get everyone together at my place and have a cookout. I've got a HUGE circle drive that can probably hold 15 cars (or 20 Roadster). It's a dirt/gravel road and driveway.

Mike Young is around, he actually called me last night cause he passed me on Silverado Trail while I was driving home in the Z. Best to call him, he's a super nice guy.

Is the BADROC sit still active
Site is still up an running. But, I haven't made any updates for a long time (I keep on trying to convince myself that my move to TX is just temporary).

The BADROC site, is actually self service, so members can upload their own content. If you sign-up, I'll approve your request.

BTW: I drove a 1966 Roadster during my Senior year at Cal . Lived on Telegraph & Durant and loved buzzing the roadster through Tilden Park during the weekends.
