new guy here

Post by erichwaslike »

hey guys and girls. im new here and figured id introduce myself. names erich and i have a 67 411 sss. i know its not a roadster but its a sss so its got the r16 from the factory. im currently trying to find a u20 to swap in since i havent seen it done in a 411. i figure this would be the best place to find one. im over on ratsun also with the same name. i have a build thread there with tons of oics of my car and the progress. heres a link to it...

http://community.ratsun.net/topic/25325 ... ld-thread/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

hopefully this site is just as fun as ratsun and just as helpful, ive found a pretty good group of knowledgeable datsun enthusiast that are actually willing to help also.

looking forward to meeting everyone on here

so long story short... hi. :smt006

I thought the r16 was tight fit in there.

Well you've come to the right place to learn everything there is to know about the U20!

Welcome Erich,
eager to see another take on an engine swap, and that would certainly fit the bill.
RHD drive will free up some room on the, well, I guess you'd have to say LH side. Fan removal, no prblem, go with an alum radiator and a pusher.
I love the 411, so keep us posted, and just so you know there is another local run the same weekend as the Grand CZanyon run, more news to follow.

Is the r16 smoked? May be cheaper to do a 5 speed conversion. 411 moves pretty good with the 16 and fiver. Cool car I love OG paint and trunk mats!

have you looked at the cost of rebuilding a U20 ??????? parts are not cheap, but good luck with your roadster whatever you decide and welcome to the fray.

no the r16 is brand new. i just put it in the car its got maybe 3000 miles at most, prolly closer to 2000. i just want more power and i have already figured out the 5 speed thing. a fs5w71b from an sd22 diesel has the same bell housing pattern and i can use the bellhousing from it with a short shaft rear housing and guts and it is a almost direct fit other than the crossmember.

and i know the u20 is expensive, but i also have 2 more r16s that i can pull pistons out of and i would be doing the work myself. all im really looking for is a correct block, crank, and complete head. i will be running my rl411 alum oil pan and can run a set of the r16 pistons with the skirts trimmed for clearence in the 2.0.

I think a stroker or H20 might be a good idea. I've thought about a U20 swap as well.

Is the 411 4-speed the same as a roadster?

I also love 411s and I'd really like an SSS wagon.

No, the RL 4 speed has a short tailshaft if I recall correctly while the Roadster has the long one.
