Howdy from Dallas!!

Well, let me start by saying "thank you." I have been creeping around this forum for the past 12 months as a "guest." The wealth of information you guys provided, made me extremely confident in my purchase (I was even able to teach the PO a thing or two).

That being said, let me introduce you to Dottie, my 1970 2000:

*This is my first time using photobucket, so please bear with me :) Click the "view all" button. I have over 70 pictures.

Long story, short. I bought the the little 311 from a guy locally here in Dallas that brokers classic American muscle. I spent every afternoon "gear head" chatting with the guy for 2 weeks. (I really wanted to make sure the car was, as it appeared to be). It was!!! I drove the little Datsun home is Dallas rush hour two weeks later. (without incident).

Now, how the broker came to own the car is a story that will send everyone into a fit of rage......... The broker I bought the car from came across the Datsun for sale, he noticed it was WAY under priced. He went and checked out the car, it wasn't running, but looked in good shape. In his opinion the car was still under priced, and being a broker, saw a chance to make a quick buck on a flip. So he purchased the car.
That's the soft part of the story, here comes the hard stuff.....
When asked why the owner had bought the car, this is what he said:

"Well, my wife and I had a deal with my daughter. If she kept her grades up, on her 16th birthday, she would get a convertible. Our daughter kept up her end of the bargain, so off my wife and I went to find her her convertible. After searching, we ended up getting her an '08 Mustang convertible, a car she has been in love with. But I couldn't let the moment of her first car pass without having some fun. So I decided to play a little trick on her. I found this little Jap MG knock off (his words not mine, we all which roadster came first), bought it, and put it in the driveway in front of the garage. Well the big moment finally came, my daughter came out, saw this little...."thing" sitting in the driveway, and was trying to fake as much appreciation as possible, but I could read the disappointment all over her face... That's when I hit the garage door opener and she saw her white mustang..... I got her good"

I won't tell you what my reaction was to hearing that story... gotta keep it PG!

Anywho, I look forward to getting to know you guys (and gals). I have already begun my "tinker time" with the car. Got rid of that 1987 tape deck, found a stock AM radio with the center bezel from the Canadians that run new-datsun-parts .com. (great to deal with)

Thanks

Welcome and glad to see you are no longer just a lurker but a contributor!
It's still a good story, no matter how tragic.
You also did fine with photobucket and you are way ahead of me on that score, I still haven't ventured there!
Again, welcome aboard!

Yes... welcome!

I thought it was a great story as it has a great ending.
The car found a good home. How much better could it get? :D

Welcome, glad you joined us. That is a very nice looking sporty. I took the liberty of grabbing one of your pictures and making it into an avatar for you. There is quite a large contingent of roadster owners in Texas as you can already see. Great story. Enjoy.

The story of my 1500 is similar. The guy I bought it from was the original owner. He had it from 1964 to 1998. He gave it to his Daughter to drive during college and she did not like it at all, so he sold it to me and bought her a more modern car. I still have the 1500, want to bet she does not have whatever they bought in 98?
