Funky Electical "Do-Hecky" on my '69 SPL Carb/ Man

I'm new (sort-a) to the 311s.org. Since I rehabbed a '69 SPL back in the "earliy" 70's, I had to dive into another rust bucket.
This little creature came from the West Coast, and was dragged "kicking and screaming" to the East Coast. (The Datsun folks must have dumped every SxL### on the West Coast, cause there rare here!)
Any how, my questions to the "Datsun Gods" is what the heck is the electircal component that is mounted on the intake manifold, between the SU carbs. My FIrst '69 SPL Didn't have this thing, But this "supposed '69 SPL" has it !!
Another weird thing is that my first car had "tear drop, amber" side marker lights and the bucket I have now has the "generic looking" 'Mopar-ish" side markers. (Ugly!!)
I'm afraid that when my car was going down the Yokohma-Line, those dudes just stuck on any old part that happened to be laying in the bin!!
Any help would be great !!

Cam,
Well, this is an easy answer! You don't have a 69 after all!! Your car is a 70 with the unique emission control doo dad on the manifold. There is a schematic for what that thingy does in the Chilton manual. I honestly don't know of anyone that still has it operational though, so I cannot give you much insight on what it does. As I recall, the unit was connected to a couple of switches and it supposedly prevented backfiring.
The side marker lights are the same as the 240Z. You probably also have big reflectors on the rear that are set low - above the bumper between the lights rather than the little ones up top. The 70's also had such conveniences as door buzzers and the front turn signals lost their chrome rings.
You are wise "Grasshopper" !

Since searching the web for info and parts for this beast, I have seen a number of engines from other '69's. Some have this solenoid, and some don't.
Figuring that Datsun did the same thing the Subuaru did,.. that is to put any available part on the sucker as it went down the "line".
As a frame of reference I once had a "80" Subu 1600 GL wagon that had 1978 front disks and 1979 rear brake. It got the point that I always took the crusty, nasty, dirty parts with me to the Parts joint. I'd drop the "dead part" on the counter and say "Gimme wanna Dem Thar Parts".
As for the vintage of this car, You are CORRECT with your crystal ball in determining the rear reflectors. My first '69 had the little reflectors at the top of the "Bat Man Ears" as my son says. This "'69" has the big cheap looking "boat trailer-lookin'" reflectors on it. Not to mention the "Z type" side lights you mentioned. (I thought they look familiar..)
While this car has given me a "number" of surprises!! Mice for one!! Where ever this things was stored, the mice LOVED the orignal Datsun trumpet exhaust pipe. They climbed in and took a hike all the way up to the connection of the exhaust manifold and headerpipe. When I pulled the motor out the other night, ALL KINDS of GUNK fell out. Mickey and his Friends were really PARTYING "IN" my CAR !!
It can ONLY Get better !! (RIGHT ?!?!??!)
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP !!

Here is one for you, my 69 looks like a 68. It doesn't have the marker lights on it, nor does it have the wiring harness for them. It does have the late steering box however.
