Just another new guy - Northern California

Post by Emptytank »

Hi everybody, My name is Mick, and I live in Northern California (Carmichael)
I thought I would join this site since I recently purchased a project 1969 1600.
I am seriously considering upgrading the engine with the SR20 that I have been reading up on, seems like the best bang for the buck, and since the existing engine is missing a lot of parts and wont turn over that is even more reason.
I will be asking a lot of questions since I know nothing about these cars except how cool looking they are.
I'm not new the the car scene, just to the Datsun scene, as I own several other cars and have restored several through the years.
Right now I'm in the information gathering phase, and I want to be well armed with information before I start tearing it apart and rebuilding.
I look forward to learning as much as I can from the people who have done this before and please bear with me if I ask some pretty basic questions...

Let the madness begin...

BTW here she is...

Welcome!

Looks like a '68 - no side markers.

Welcome. Perhaps titled as a 69 but really a 68. Check the wiring diagrams on this site to see whart you have, among other possible differences.
Good luck on your restoration.

I think the previous owner eliminated the side markers when they did the flairs, they eliminated all the emblems too.

Hmmmm. with more pictures or the VIN we can figure out the year!

Also has the '68 front valence - smaller holes under the grille.

Welcome, you have come to the right spot!
Regardless of the year, it looks pretty solid and like a good starting place.
Looking forward to seeing your progress!
I suggest looking here to be sure: http://www.datsunroadster.com/INFO_PAGES/what_year.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Well I guess I have a 1968, the title and registration are for a 1969, I will check the vin this weekend when I am back at the car.
This kind of information is why I joined this site.
Thanks for the input and the nice comments, and it is quite obvious I have a lot to learn.

Very common for them to be titled for the year of sale rather than the actual model year.

Mine was titled a 69, but is, in fact, a 68.

Well, I have a 1968, the VIN is SPL31120298 and according to the chart it is in fact a 1968.
Like the others it is titled as a 1969.
I actually prefer a 1968, because of the collector cars I own prior to this one are a 1967, 1969 and 1970, now I have the 1968 to fill in the missing year :D

Well if the chevy's are any indication, the Roadster should look amazing when done.
I'm kinda partial to Impala's myself, though yours are mere children in age compared to mine ;-) :-)
Seriously those are some beautiful cars!
