The 3rd Annual SoCalROC Show-N-Shine Toy Drive is up and running. This ALL Datsun event has gained much notoriety the last couple of years and thanks to all of you it is growing and making a difference in the lives of children at the holidays. Due to this notoriiety we have secured a new location in Riverside to hold this event. So mark this down on your calendars. The 3rd Annual SoCalROC Show-N-Shine Toy Drive will be held on November 20, 2010 at the Riverside International Automotive Museum, with special guests. Also: We are having a Contest!

We have decided to have a contest on T-Shirt designs for our very first T-Shirt our Show-N-Shine Toy Drives.

Here is what you need to do:Come up with a design for the back of our T-shirts (Roadster related and other Datsns), The art work much be as we would say in the old days... "Camera Ready", meaning, what you submit must be ready to give to the printer. We will ad the sponsor logos and that kind of fun stuff. All you need to do is submit a design by September 20, 2010. The winner will have their choice of a Coffee Mug and a T-Shirt, a Wall Clock and T-Shirt, or two (2) T-Shirts with their design printed on the back with or without the sponsorship logos. The Mug and Clock will not have sponsorship logos on them. The design will also be used on the event program cover and announced on the website and in our online publication "Roadster Ramblings". Please be sure to sign the submitted art work if you wish. We would like full credit to be given to the artist for the chosen design.

We need these submitted in a .jpg format by September 20th. Please email them to this email address along with your name and mailing address. Your mailing address will be kept private.

The design will be Chosen by a hand picked panel, none of which will be submitting art for this contest.

Dear fellow Roadster enthusiast,

The 3rd Annual SoCalROC Show-N-Shine Toy Drive is November 20, 2010 and as it quickly approaches we are working hard to make sure everything is in place. As you can imagine, an event of this scale requires some attention to detail. Though our main purpose is to gather toys for the children, we want to make this a fun time for all and draw as many people in as we can; more people equals more toys. To draw more of the general public with toys for the chilren we have some special guest to do a meet and greet and to judge a class of cars for the Show-N-Shine as well as for photo ops.

Our sponsors have been gracious. Although their sponsorship is not in the form of funds, we do appreciate their much-needed support (more is still needed here as well). However, we are in need of some funds for this event. Our need is not huge; actually thanks to our sponsors and some club members volunteering, our needs are rather small compared to most events of this caliber. Nevertheless, we do have a need for this Toy Drive to be a success. Our funding goes towards a dual cause. First, we need money to pay for the expenses of the event. Second, we are holding this at the Riverside International Automotive Museum. This is a non-profit organization and they are letting us use their facility for free. Therefore, any leftover funds will go to support the legacy that the museum is working so diligently to preserve.

If you can donate any amount, $10, $15, $20, $30, or $100 or more, it will go to a great cause and your name will be included on the card given with the toys when they are delivered. You can also designate your funds to buy a toy, just be sure to say so when making your donation. This year we will be able to obtain pictures of the toys being delivered as well.

We just got word that Air 1 Radio has been talking about our Show-N-Shine Toy Drive and pushing it on air. They will be joining us on site November 20 for a few hours.

The Riverside International Automotive Museum now has BRE Cars. The original BRE Datsun Roadster as well as Ron Carter's famous BRE 240z are there and word has it the BRE 510 is on its way.

Our main objective is to gather toys for the children's hospital, by putting on a great event that draws a good number of the general public then we are also gathering more toys for the children.

November 13th is the dealine for Preregistration!

Thats 16 days left to get your preregistration in for the 3rd Annual SoCalROC Show-N-Shine Toy Drive. You wont want to miss this years line up of fantastic guests and race cars like the 1970 Gurney Olsonite Eagle, the 1962 Maserati 62 3500 GTI, or the 2005 Maserati Spyder 90th Anniverary, or the original BRE Datsun Roadster and Ron Carter’s famous BRE 240z and so many, many more.

Preregistering helps us to know what number to plan for. We know there is always some that register the day of the event, which is fine. But preregistering helps us in knowing approximately how many event pamphlets to have made up, how many goodies bags to fill, and what to have ready for food, drinks as well as getting the shirts and awards paid for in advance and to know how many needs to be ordered. Because we keep our entry fees so low to bring in more cars which mean more toys for the children we start each year’s event off with a budget of Zero. Preregistrations helps us in assuring a great event with nice awards and plenty of fun.

It is not everyday there are six really awesome Race Car Drivers at a single event to meet and greet everyone coming for this great cause. With this in mind this years awards have been designed to have room on them so the winners can have them signed by any of our special guests that they desire.

With all that is going on at this show it is surprising to me that pre-registration is so low this year. I know many that are planning on coming and registering on-site, but it is unbelievable with two weeks to go for the pre-registration deadline coming upthat is is going so slow. Where are all the trucks, Z cars and 510s? This year we have 2 Z Car classes, 1983 and older (1st through 3rd) and 1984 to present (1 award for best newer Z Car)

Great Raffles Prizes this year, Great Awards, Dash Plaques, Great Special Guest, Live Radio Broadcast in the morning, live classic Rock band in the afternoon, Great Vendors, Awesome Museum, Food, Fun, Classic Datsuns, and You!

ALL Early registrations that you are mailing in must be post marked not later then today November 13, 2010.

On-Line Registration will remain open until Wednesday November 17th. You can register on-line by sending payment through paypal and all your registration information with your payment or email registration form to socalroc@gmail.com, Payment must be sent via PayPal to cmb.assoc@gmail.com

If you are planning on registering on site try to arrive between 8:45 and 9:45am. We would like all cars staged by 10:00am

We just got word that Tony Adamowicz had to cancel due to a job (making real Money) at the LA Auto Show and he will not be making it to the Show-N-Shine as planned. Scooter Patrick will not be making it as well, he just sent word that last minute family plans for Thanksgiving has come up and he has to be out of town, he states that he looks forward to making it out for next years Show. This can be disappointing, however we are gathering to have fun with our Datsuns and most of all to make the Holidays brighter for the Hospitalized Children by gathering Toys.

However, We got a call today from Hector Cademartori asking if he could join us. After talking we agreed and he will be bringing his Datsun 240Z Race car with him. Hector races historic race cars in Gran prix style. He is sponsored by Lucas Oil which is also a sponsor for this event. He is a fantastic artist who creates stunning sketches and drawings, the most recent is of the BRE 240Z #46 which I undewrstand is now on display at the Riverside International Automotive Museum next to the BRE 240Z #46. We look forward to having Hector be with us this Saturday November 20th at the Riverside International Automotive Museum from 10:00am - 3:00pm

Last month I was at the Automotive Design Center at the Art Center in Pasadena for one of the most elegant Car Shows around. The weather was not what would be expected for a California weekend in October. As the Ferrari's, Maserati's, Bentley's and Rolls Royce's and yes, even a Datsun arrived so did the weather. On and off throughout the day the weather tested the durability of chamois and owners nerves, yet, the Show went on.

The 3rd Annual SoCalROC Show-N-Shine Toy Drive is set for this Saturday November 20th. There is a 60% chance that it will not rain. Yesterday it was a 40% chance of no rain. So the odds are getting better and we are looking forward to a dry and wonderful day. It maybe a bit overcast or even foggy in the morning, but we are hopeful that this 60% chance of no rain will increase.

However, this is California and like the economy the weather can disappoint us. If that does happen a Rain-Check will be put into place. If we have Rain, and I don't mean Mist, but actual Rain, the Show-N-Shine Toy Drive will be postponed until the following Saturday November 27th at the same place and same time.

This Update will either say "The Show Is On"! or it will give details of the postponement. I realize that for many a postponement will be an incoveince but if it is raining we have no other options. After all, this event will be much more fun if it was dry.

The 3rd Annual SoCalROC Show-N-Shine Toy Drive on November 27, 2010 was a great success for being postponed a week due to rain. We had about 50 Datsuns show up and you helped set a record for toys brought in for this event for Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital. All of you that attended are responsible for making the Holidays brighter for these children. We feel it is an honor to be associated with a group of Datsun owners that really care.

I personally thank all of the Datsun Owners that made this Show-N-Shine Toy Drive the success that it was. We look forward to working with all of you again in making each holiday season brighter for these children

Organizing an event like this takes allot of planning and allot of work, we might not have it prefect and we might make mistakes but it is those mistake we learn from that will help make this Show-N-Shine Toy Drive better each year.

To Karen Desirello, Greg Desirello, Nancy Person, and Carita Disckson, and Denise Desirello for all the attention given to the show the day of the event.

Also a big thank to our Datsun family from the Inland Empire Classic Datsun/JDM Meet for their support of our Show-N-Shine Toy Drives. The Inland Empire Classic Datsun/JDM Meet is the 3rd Saturday of every month held at Day Street and Gateway Drive - Moreno Valley, CA

Thank you again and we look forward to seeing you all again next year as we continue to gather toys for the children’s hospital and show off our Datsuns. Just wait to see what we have planned for next year!
