New to the 2000 in SoCal

Hey guys,

I recently purchased a 1970 2000. I have always admired the car for its style and looks. I am new to this vintage but not new to the marque currently owing a 91 twinturbo Z. So as you could guess carbs, live axels and leaf springs are what I could consider black magic as opposed to ECUs and mountains of wiring.

Basically this car is what I would consider a barnyard find in the middle of Santa Monica. It definitely has its issues, having recently let copious amounts of smoke out of the starter and cancerous fuel tank being my largest issues thus far. Followed closely by missing window seals and misc. bits and pieces. The good news though, is that it has a new top and the upholstery is in really good condition.

So I am sure I might re-ask the same question you've all hear a million times before but I will search first.

Welcome aboard! From those pics it looks very solid, and the chrome looks pretty good. Sounds like you have a good start.

Welcome. I too have a Z32 TT, mine is a 95 with it's original red paint! I have a 67 1600 I just finished so a lot of the restoration is still fresh in my mind if you have any questions. The people on here are super friendly and are willing to help with any questions. I would definitely take a look at the tech section as there are so many great write ups and part numbers for things you might need, want or want to change.

I've been doing a lot of research on it. My biggest goal right now is to get it on the road for trips around town and what not. With the long term goal i.e. next 6 month to be able to travel about 2 hours from town with no worries. But first I need to get it to run and I am trying hard to make that happen in about 2 weeks. Its going to be an uphill battle but it should be fun. One thing that really got me though is that i though I would have more room to work in the engine bay than my Z. Boy was I wrong getting the starter out proved to be quite difficult but I managed it by taking the outer housing off and then sliding it between the body and the frame.

Replace it with a gear reduction or Forklift starter, much smaller, more reliable and cheaper than the original.
It is much easier to get in and out!

Target date on the horizon, SoCalTT October 10/11, backroads tour from Glendale to Los ALamos (north of Solvang), ~350 miles of SUPERB backroads, with great eats along the way. Great bunch of folks, all pre '75 cars of all makes and conditions.

Let us know where you are located (in LA), and questions are always welcome. Search is helpful, but revisiting already answered challenges allows one to rethink, reword.... and sometimes re-invent the wheel!
