Hi folks,

I need some guidance on wheels and tyres. I want to run 15x6 10+ superlites and need to work out the best series tyres to buy. I notice lots of people on 311s run 60 series on 14s, 50 series tyres on 15 and 50 series on 16 inch rims.

In Australia guys are running 60 series tyres on 14s, 60 series tyres on 15s, and 50 series tyres on 16s.

Its all so freakin confusing. I want a wheel and tyres diameter which is going to give me the mixture of best handling, ride and looks and be as close to the original rim diameter as possible. All advice welcome and appreciated.

For the Diameter and performace I would suggest 195x50 as 195 x 45 are very limited as to brand.

Ride will be softer with the 60 series

So the 10mm doesn't through out the handling or the speedo?

Don't worry about the speedo. It's out anyway. 10mm won't make any difference, in fact depending on which way it's out it may improve the situation!

First, get the "stock" dimensions of the roadster, enter it here
Then, compare your different sidewalls
it evens tells you how "off" your speedo will be, but like Ruth says you'd never notice the difference with a stock speedo anyway!!!

Ride quality doesn't not "suffer" going from a 60 to a 50series, especially with our suspensions

ps the higher the number the taller the sidewall, so a 60-series tire will fill the wheel well more than a 50-series mounted on the same diameter rim

what diameter wheel are you running?

The stock size was 5.60x14 with a 6.45x14 as an option for the 2000s. The second seems to be a bastard size that is not currently available. Coker has the first size and shows the diameter as 24.6" Now, that is a bias ply tire. The free diameter of a any tire is going to be bigger than the rolling radius due to the weight of the car. This will affect things, but to what extent I don't know exactly. Now, if you want your car to read properly (with no other changes to gearing or transmission), you need a tire of the same diameter as stock. Using the calculator that Alvin provided, that gives these:

185/75R14 - 24.92 in
195/70R14 - 24.74 in
205/65R14 - 24.49 in
