got a carb question, conversion question that is

so i am always trying new things, i am not a datsun purest so dont scorn me please. is or was there an intake for an R series 1600 that can convert the two side drafts to a weber or something else...

i am not a huge fan of side drafts as my wife has an addiction towards old europeon cars so i am familiar with them...

i dont need to hear all the pros and cons of SU's i know them already. i plan to order carbs from Ztherapy.com but..... i am curious!

Yes there is or was, There is a local 1600 with a down draft carb on it. The car is for sale may still be on craigslist. Medford Oregon. $ 450.00.

Go see your friendly forklift dealer. He may have a downdraft manifold to fit as all of them were typically downdraft setups. The down side is that they have tiny ports I am told. In Japan and other non-US destinations, there were some cars that were equipped with the H20 engine that had downdrafts with normal ports. I know of one person on the forum with a downdraft manifold, and I have called dibbs on it. Now I just need to figure on how to get it pried away from him. I am sure it has something to do with finding some parts I owe him or some such nonesense...

To me downdrafts are for trucks, tractors, or American V8s. Seems like a sharp 90-degree angle in the intake would be bad for flow.

I think Dave Brisco has a pair of adapters that allow dual downdrafts to be mounted on the SU intake - seems like a kludge to me.

Dual side-draft Webers or better yet, Mikunis would be much more appropriate for a sports car.

all of the sidedraft p1800 volvos i have owned i have changed to a downdraft weber 32/36 or 38/38 with a cannon intake.

i am not sure what i am going to do i was just curious. the biggest problem would be finding the intake i am sure....

Even if you can't find a ready to go intake, there are ways around it. Get an L20B downdraft intake and spend time modifying it. Those intakes are cheap and they work. Now one thing to keep in mind is hood height. If you start cobbling together something that wasn't meant to be there, you may be cutting into the hood to make it all fit - which would ruin the looks of the hood to me anyway...

No, different head. The only heads that are interchangeable with the 1600 unit are the the G15 head from the 1500 and the H20 head from the forklift, industrial engine applications and the non-US market cars. The H20 in other cars were sedans with more underhood space. The G15 in the Roadster (1500) had SU carbs. There is a Weber footprint manifold available. If you absolutely have to get away from side draft carbs, then get the Weber intake and some of the throttle bodies and go fuel injection. It will be quite pricey and will take a lot of work on your end figuring out the fuel mapping and such (all well beyond me), but it gets the carbs out of the mix. If you want to try to go that route with factory pieces, get a spare 1600 manifold and a JDM L18/L20B fuel injection setup and go with it. Again, pricey and dough to locate - plus it requires manifold fabrication.

I put a Datsun 240Z weber dgv kit on a 1600 stroker I built for a guy back in the 80's and it worked great, and it still running arround that way to this day. It bolts right up to the stock 1600 manifold and I see these kits freqently on ebay, they are used but they can be rebuilt or you can buy a new kit compleat for about $900.00

yeah well i went and drove the car home today. it runs find but rich and he said he couldnt get it adjuster anymore.

i am ordering vtherapy carbs and the brisco dizzy. i dont feel like fabricating a bunch of stuff. i just want dependabilty for my wife. it is her car, that was the thought for a single downdraft, but it is to much fun to drive so sidedrafts stay!

so if I were to throw the 2 webers and the manifold adapters in the box for $125.00 more (exactly what I paid for them), would that work for you? Condition unknown, no linkage, but look complete

that is alot of down draft, how much do you want for the setup?

sucks there is no linkage, that could be a chore to fabricate.

As I said, it cost me $125.00, so I'd like to break even. Linkage shouldn't be too hard to figure out once it's in place, but better you than me

hey brisco what is the price on the dizzy from you, with a coil and such?

i wonder if those carbs are jetted for the car or did you get the carbs seperate?
