Well folks I've just about scratched a hole in my head and I can't figure if I have a problem or not. I pulled the rear end, diferential with springs attached from my '69 2000. I took the springs off this unit and transferred them to the one from my '68 1600 parts car for the lower geared rear end. I replaced the bushings and pads with a urethane kit.
When everthing was re-installed, springs, torque rod, etc, KYB GR2's #343136 were put in place. The geometery that I see has me concerned. The lower shock mount sits at an angle quite different from the angle of the shock. Everything seems to be put together as per the pictures I took prior to disassembly. The lower end of the shock will go into the mounting hole but it will be difficult to tighten down properly. Any help greatly appreciated. Pat Mahoney

Having just been there, what with replacing the rear springs, it could as simple as having mixed up the left and right lower shock mounts. Try swapping that plate that mounts below the spring and see if that doesn't make the angles better.

Are your end links flipped up (many people get them mixed up and leave them down. It will jack the rear end up and make it drive strange.) The shock mounts point inward.

Thanks Bucky, I was in a big A__ hurry to get on the road and didn't slow down to look for differences in the lower mounts. Swapped them around and life is good. Now to bleed the brakes and install and dial in the carbs then tear up the Idaho country-side. Pat Mahoney p.s. Don't beat yourself up over it, stuff like that happens to all of us. I recently tried to put rear lowering springs on one side at a time so I'd have something "undisturbed" to compare to. Fought with that sucker for way too long trying to get the springs to seat on the differential housing before I discovered that with a stock spring on one side, the first side was cocked and wouldn't line up. I removed the other spring and presto!

But most importantly, there is no question I've ever seen asked on this board that was ever made fun of. No matter how basic it seems to you, go ahead and ask. We all try to be helpful. Down the road, you'll probably find a new person asking a question you can answer, and it feels good to help out.

BTW, do you know about the EISCC autocrosses? We come up there once in a while and they come down here (Salt Lake). Look for me in 2006.
