It's that time again, for the Modesto Annual Polar Bear Run. It is about 150 miles or so round trip, usually back in the Modesto area by 4:00. This is the 22nd Run, I have organized the last 7 since the passing of its originator, Paul Smith. I have in the past run most of the original 'legs' of Paul's runs heading towards the Sierra foothills. This year, to mix it up a bit, I have parted with tradition a bit and plan a run towards Del Puerto Canyon Rd and Mines Rd, and Livermore.
We'll meet on Sat, the 6th of mar. at The Chevron/Starbucks on Kansas Ave, right off HWY 99 (west side of overpass), in Modesto. Show up at 8:30 a.m. We will get organized, and take off at or around 9:00 a.m. (Tops are optional) This year we will head over to Patterson, up to The Junction/or Livermore/Winery for lunch (still undecided, will make test run to figure out), with a couple of stops to kick tires and for relief.
Please remember to bring a dish and/or something for the Pot-Luck lunch. Bring your own plates, face wipers, & silverware/plastic knives& forks. Bring a bottle of red wine or other beverage for your enjoyment. If we end up at The Junction, there is a nice selection of beverages and 'bar food' for mid-day refueling, so bringing food may be less of a concern this year. DONT LET THE POT LUCK ASPECT HOLD YOU BACK, THERE ARE ALWAYS EXTRAS. Though you may have to fight for the wine...
Keep an eye on the weather that week for latest details and planning. A nice warm jacket in the car doesn't take up much room.
We will have some magnets for your fridge or toolbox, keeping it simple this year! Come on out for a fun run!
Hope to see you on Saturday, March 6!
