Steering Wheels

Post by Ivin »

Hi-

Just went through the archives and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a steering wheel for a 1966 SPL-311?

Thanks,

Ivin

steering wheels

Post by SLOroadster »

I have a 13.5 inch grant in my 2L. It makes driving much easier for those of us with long and or large legs (I'm a bicyclist and I don't fit under the stock wheel). The small wheel requires a little effort when the car isn't moving, but once its rolling it is great. You can get a MOMO wheel and hub but the hub is hard to find. If you want to go really exotic, EMPI (as in VW fame) made a few (less than 50) wood rimed wheels. They are very hard to come by. I have seen one that is currently being restored. A friend of mine found it in a car that we picked up. That car is now in much better shape and is currently on ebay (its amazing what a little paint and a new interior will do to a car. Look for the 67.5 2000)

An early 240Z Momo hub adapter fits. The hubs splines are not a perfect fit to the steering shaft splines. Make sure you line the hub up properly for the new Momo wheel of your choice and then tighten the hub down with the nut. The hub splines are soft aluminum and will regroove with the splines on the steering shaft. I used one on my 67.5 stroker and have had no loose steering wheel problems. I did have to make a piece to go in between the turn signals and the dash. These hubs are readily available and there are a ton of steering wheels to choose from. Grant is the other choice using the 4581 adapter. There are some pretty sharp looking Grant wheels as well. A Momo hub adapter for the roadster is no longer available.

I am putting an EMPI on my 67.5 2000. I bought it restored and the nice part is that it is a direct fit onto the Roadster steering column and the horn button mounts right on.

I am lucky I found one and am surprised you were able to as well. I am going to cover the wood grain with black leather as my car will be black with red interior and I think the wood grain would look terrible.

Steering Wheel

I accidently came accross a company that claims that they can get the Momo steering wheel hub adapter for a Roadster (Part #3500). I have asked them to let me know if they can really get this. Hopefully I will find out tommorrow and I can let the group know. If this is true, that would be real nice for anyone who wanted to swap out there steering wheel. Not knowing much about this I wonder if there would be trouble finding a horn button to fit?

Anyway, I'll let you know what happens.

MOMO and EMPI wheels

Post by SLOroadster »

Andrew, the Empi wheel was found on #215. Ivan, is the company with the MOMO adaptor in L.A.? I was told that some rice burner/import tuner down there has them. Aparently the owner is a closet roadster fan. I don't know the name of the place.

Ivin,

Well, lucky you-maybe. I guess I should never say never. Any steering wheel you purchase comes with the horn button and hardware to mount it to the hub adapter. Keep us posted on your Momo hub adapter find. I would like to get the right one if I can.

Horn Adapter

Hi Steve,

I sent them an e-mail and asked if they really have any in stock. I also talked with them on the phone and they said that they would get back to me tommorow. I also asked them to let me know how many they have. Once they get back to me I'll let everyone know.

I bought a Momo hub adaptor awhile back part #3500 and It didnt quite fit in my 69. I had to make a little modification. Not much work. If that place doesnt have it. Here is the place i got mine from and it was only $50.

Steering Hub

Post by Ivin »

Hi guys-

Well.....Very Disappointed.....all talk. They told me no problem but as it turns out, they didn't have it. They did offer me a hub for a 240Z. They said that they have one left. I'll keep trying.

Thanks,

Ivin

I just bought the Grant adaptor from Summit Racing last month. They go for $25. With my $20 coupon I got it for $6 with shipping.

I got the coupon after a 1st time buyer purchase when I order 4 new KYB shcoks.

When I get home I will get you the Part#.
