Guys, I've just fitted a set of new tyres to the U22 beastie. At last some rubber that can let the new engine and suspension work shine! Initial thoughts: These are fan-bloody-tastic! Corners that I was losing grip on @ 60kph I can now see 80kph and realise that there's probably another 15-20kph safety margin. Can't wait to get onto the track and see what they're capable of. Also, a full tread depth (rather than running semi-slicks) means good wet performance on my daily driven car.

they're considered an extremely affordable summer tire here in the states, definitely much better street/track tires out there for more$$

I have these tires on my EVO and they work well. Unfortunately they don't make a lot of sizes in them that are roadster friendly.

Oh, sure, there are better tyres out there that are more expensive, but these to me are a great compromise between a track focused semi-slick and a normal street tyre. Not to mention that semi-slicks are appalling on wet, greasy roads. Just thought I'd let people know how impressed I was. They've only recently become available here in Australia, too.

Alvin , What are the specs on your wheels and tires ?

These are now out in a 195/60/14! I think a set of these will be finding their way onto one of my sets of wheels after the engine is healthy again.

Any idea how these would rate vs the Yokohama AVS ES100?

I too have been interested in these tires... a call to tire rack lists them in stock. A call to ANY other retailer that I can find that sells Dunlop, including the Dunlop website and a call directly to them says that they don't exist, and that Dunlop doesn't even make a tire in that size! Amazing! Apparently Dunlop got bought out by Goodyear and Kelly, and the customer service person said "I can't access all their inventory, but I am not showing any Dunlop tires in that size being made." Wow, what service! I am tempted to order them, however they are more expensive than some other all season extreme tires. I don't care about all season but there are more tires (and cheaper) available and wonder what I would give up buying an all season tire vs a summer tire only. I did read some of the reviews about the Dunlops, one stating that they tend to be overkill for a suspension that cannot really use them (what ever that means) and that they tend to track ruts a lot. So, that being said, anybody have some input on tires they REALLY like, who like me drive summer only, drive hard, running 195/60/14s or 195/55/14. I currently have an older set of Bridgestone Potenza RE71s that I like, but I can tell they are old and getting hard. I know everyone was hyped about Falkins awhile ago, but I have not been impressed with the quality in the past with their stuff, but things do change.

just got off the phone with the guys at Tire rack. Another suggestion was the Potenza RE960 Pole position, an all season tire. This guy seemed to know his tires and has experience and feedback from autox racers (he sometimes runs a 280z with 14in wheels and likes these tires as a good all around). Grip appears good, not as high as the Dunlops, but their treadwear is double, ride comfort and noise are much better. I know I know, it's on a rough riding, noisey Roadster, but I can tell you, the difference in ride comfort between my old Faulkins and the Potenzas I have on the car now was huge. Price diff is about $60 total, but they should last a lot longer and maybe be a nicer tire all around. Feedback anyone?

Excellent! Thanks. Looks like Dunlops or Hankooks for me when the time comes.

I really like the old version of the Hankook RS3s (the RS2.) I have them on my Alfa and they have done really well on the street at have been awesome for autoX. They do pretty well in the rain, and I was planning on putting a set on the roadster, but they (the 14" RS2s) are NLA. If you have 15 inch wheels either the Dunlops or the Hankooks are likely the way to go.
