Yup, it's raining in Portland

Hey all-as long as it's gonna rain for the next 6 months in Portland (Vancouver, Washington actually) we bought a new project.
It's a '69 1600.
The good news-The whole car is there but it hasn't run since '95. Carbs were rebuilt (professionally here in Portland), head has been rebuilt, brakes gone through, gas tank is in great shape, radiator is in great shape, it has farily new shocks and looks like lots of stuff was replaced. All in all it's complete and seems like it should be a good driver.
The bad news: first, I have to move my '90 300ZX out of the garage and she's pissed about sitting in the driveway under a cover. The roadster must have sat outside for years, slowly rotting away, the top is in shreds but all the parts are in pretty good shape. It looks like there was at least 3" of water in the trunk and driver's side at one time. I've cleaned the trunk up and will take care of the driver's floor this weekend. Luckily there's no rust through in either floor (a few pin holes in the trunk).
It looks like the body has been repaired before and there is rust bubbling up in a few places through the gawd awful lilac colored paint. We'll see what evil lurks but right now, the passenger wheel arch and the driver's front fender lower look to be the only major spots.
Wiring has been tampered with, there was an aftermarket stereo installed behind the passenger seat and the wiring was not done well. The entire under hood wiring harness has been stripped (of tape) and several wires are broken that lead to the driver's side lights. Oddly, there is no sign of melting or shorts so I have no idea why a previous owner was messing around in there (but I'll bet I find out).
This has gone on long enough, I just wanted to say hi. I'm sure I'll be back many times asking silly questions.
See ya,
Dan

Again, welcome! Looks like a very solid project car.
Gotta agree on the god awfulness of that paint color though!
What have you got in mind for a re-paint, or is it to early to ask?

Thanks for the welcome.
We both like the pale yellow stock color. I had a '59 'Vette that was Nassau blue, loved that color. My '90 300zx is dark metallic grey, it's beautiful.
I've painted several cars and will be doing this one in my garage as well. I know from experience that it's much easier to paint a non metallic color than one with heavy metallic (especially silver).
That's a long ways off yet and plans will probably change many times.
Right now, the focus is to get it running and driving safely. The interior will be next, probably stated soon, body and paint will be last once I have the rust under control.

My '65 Impala is Nassau blue, and I agree, it's great color!

Nice car. You like open air cars, eh? I agree, the ZX is a t-top. Not quite a convertible but better than a solid roof too.
Thanks again for the welcome.

Not really Portland.
I see you're in the "real OC".
I'm in Vancouver, (not B.C.) Washington (not D.C.).

Welcome...lots of Roadsters in the Portland/Vancouver area. I sent you a PM. It looks like a pretty solid project. That cream yellow is a good color choice. I have got a few extra parts if you run into anything needed. By the way...still raining here.
