Check out Ace Hardware. They have a pretty good fastener section.

Now If I had a pocket full of knobs.....I would try a large ACE hardware store. They have a large slection here of all types of small screws. Of course you would have to know the thread size or pitch. Even if they are to long...put a nut on and cut off next to the nut. Then when you take the nut off it will clean the threads up. Best I can do from here.

Anyone into R/C?

There are literally hundreds of different types of fasteners for the R/C crowd. I haven't played with my R/C boats in a while, but you could get 4-40; 2-56; even 0 and 00 without even mentioning the 6 and up in just about every head configuration you can imagine.

R/C certainly does have a good variety, but it can't hold a candle to the model train guys. Don't get me started on watchmakers...

OH, I agree!!

I was just mentioning the ones I know about. But having drooled over some of the intricate assemblies the train aficionados get to play with.... I still recall the first N scale (one down from HO if memory serves) steam locomotive and all it's intricate little parts. Wow, what an intricate piece of machinery.

And I agree on watchmakers also, those guys must have magnifying lenses for eyes.

I work next door to a clock repair shop AND drive by a hobby shop that I think does trains and RC on the way to/from work. Sounds like I have some options.

The N scale trains are wild! You can have a complete train diorama in a briefcase! I couldn't handle that. My old eyes couldn't handle it, and my clubfisted hands surely couldn't work on it.

Sure will...I'll buy like 2 dozen of them and then anytime someone needs a screw (so to speak) they can contact me.

However, someone backed into my Roadster at work yesterday so I'm a bit sidetracked from my tinkering and now working out repair. Damage wasn't too terrible, but it needs some minor body work and rear bumper repair. or replacement.

I made my own from a regular machine screw. Cut it to length with my Dremel, then cut a screw driver slot in the end. The process took me all of about 5 minutes. A tedious job but it works and no one can tell by looking at it. Sorry I do not remember the thread, possibly 8-32 ?

my fan switch was missing the screw, and i believe it was 8-32 threads, but i used an allen screw instead. and any decent hardware store will stock these. usually in the small pull out shelves over the bolt bins. you may need a tap also to clean out the threads on your knobs. take one with you to get the right size.

Went the sleepyzzz route and found an allen screw that worked. I picked up 4 different ones at the hardware store and tried them all out and 1 worked. I'll go back this week (or maybe today) and get the others and write down exactly which one it was. Think it was about $.42 ea. Super tiny, takes a .050 allen wrench.

Alright...part number was SS 440 316, dims are 4-40 x 3/16

Because the allen screw doesn't have a larger head on it, the knobs do not stay firmly planted. They stay on, but not the greatest fit/finish ever. But, looks better than having the knobs in the glovebox.
