Since I've bugged practically every member of this forum at one time or another, I guess I'll give an update on my road to Solvang!

Last weekend the body was finally mounted back on the frame. Doors, hood, front fenders and trunk lid are ready for paint and mounted back. The seats are being reupholstered as we speak.\

I got the nice plugs for the air injection ports and now the system is officially "airpump-less".

The gremlin that was playing with my temp. gauge before seemed to die now that everything is screwed where they belong. I guess that now whatever it was that needed grounding on the body is now happily reunited with it. Now I get a reading, and it remains a a constant "top" temp (not AT the top reading, just at a constant temp!) to the point that I was able to confirm that the thermostat IS working....I got the first flow of coolant and water through the system now that the thermostat opens when it has to (the bad reading form the gauge made me shut down the engine before, not letting the temp rise and open it up)

Well, for now, that's the status of the project.........I'll keep you posted!

My problem now is getting the carbs adjusted the way they are supposed to, but I'll deal with them after I get the timing light this weekend and check the timing

Thanks Minh! That's the kind of feedback that makes me look forward to a whole new vacation day tomorrow! I really hope this car is ready for Solvang, but even if it isn't, I can't wait to go there and get to know in person all the good friends like you that have been a key factor in my progress!!!!!!!

Great job Jorge!! I really hope you take my last Solvang message to task, and even if you still have a gremlin lurking in the car by the time Solvang comes around, try to get it there any way possible, even towing it. That way we can all put our heads together and solve the problem so you can enjoy it there.

Hey Lou! I think I will do that. I just finished putting back the gas tank.....that way I don't have to depend on a red gas container to supply gas, and a bucket full of absorving gravel to collect the returning gas!

Other than that, the only problem I might have "unsolved" by then will be the paint job......but I won't mind taking it to Solvang like that anyways!

3 years ago, I almost took my car to solvang with no paint, no interior and some really ugly wheels and tires. I had it all stirpped down to bare metal. I would have taken it but it was raining the day before and didn't want to deal with any surface rust. The car was UGLY, it had some exposed bondo, and a little paint here and there. In my opinion, if it is good to go but ugly, bring it and be pround of what you have.

You know Will, I think you just helped me decide that I will take it if paint is my only "unfinished" work. After all, I spent probably 75% of my efforts in engine and frame restoration/rebuilding. And the body is already dent, rust, and scratch free anyways!

Absolutely Jorge! I'll be there in my faded, originally poorly painted Datsun racing orange with the original cream showing through, rust and dents everywhere, no interior car that I have owned a lot longer than you have owned yours!

Travis you don't look goofy at all. You are more of an unintimidating looking guy. You know that nice-guy-how-ya-doing type.

I can't vouch for Will; though, I did see his car. Last time I saw it someone fingered letters in his exhaust stains on the primer paint - "Gross Polluter." I figure either he or his freind(s) has a sense of humor.

Actually at Shasta, I wrote that. I was really un happy with my car looking so bad. It rattled EVERYTHING loose on the trip up. The alternator was flopping around, the driver seat was loose it was just a bad trip up. I still havn't fixed the oil burn issue (no $) but I will have the monster U20 for Shasta. Lets just say it will be more than a 2 Liter . Bob Sharp's Comp prep book is going to get some excessive attention in the engine dept. I can't say what I'm doing because someone will protest me the moment I roll up to a autoX start line. I will give rides @ Solvang if anyone is interested.

Hey! I think the rookie (a.k.a. me!) should get the first ride, so I can experience all the things that my car CAN'T do!

He who finds me first gets the first ride. It should be easy to tell when I arive, I know I have the loudest roadster out there. Off throttle deceleration sounds like a brick of fire crackers on the 4th of July. I'll be down on Friday with the south bound caravan.
