Potential Fraud

Post by S Allen »

I received this from a gentleman yesterday and thought everyone should be aware of what happened. He did not mention who the seller was on Ebay but buyers beware as it looks like this may become someone else's nightmare.
Sir:

I do not know if you post these types of notices or not, but I would like to alert others as to a potential fraud issue.

I purchased a 1968 SRL 311 through Ebay in April. When the car finally arrived, it was nothing like the pictures or ad indicated. No title or bill of sale was ever provided. Through many months of phone calls, e-mails, and jumping through hoops, the insurance carrier for Ebay finally agreed to reimburse me for the original purchase plus transportation. This is good. However, when the transporter picked up the car tonight, I asked him specifically what would happen to the car, and was told it would be taken to the Dallas Auto Auction.

The driver was told there was no title or bill of sale, and that many problems were identified with the car; it could only be scrapped. He informed me that the VIN would probably be changed and the car sold. I was horrified, and would like to alert other members about a potential fraud.

Specifically, the car is a 1968 SRL 311 with serial number SRL311-03621, engine number U20-004326, and was silver when it left my property. Perhaps it will be pieced out or perhaps it will be “modified” and sold as a “good” car.

If there is some way to let members know, I would appreciate it. I will also be glad to provide copies of repair estimates I was required by the insurance company to obtain for both body repair and engine repair, as well as some real pictures.

Thank you
