Gary, spoke to Diane, she can't wait to see you.

I may have posted this elsewhere, but it's Mr K's 100th birthday that week, I'd like to try to get a group photo at the show and shine and maybe at the Hill for the Datsun Heritage Museum. SOCALROC is having a party the next week at the museum and sending photos to Mr K.

I'm working on getting the banner made, hopefully properly lettered in Japanese. If anyone has a source for banners, please let me know, or I'll do it locally. Chris Beyer is working on the proper translation.

No 64 unless I quit my job and work 3 weeks straight. Parts delays and a generally lazy nature took their toll.
The 69 is running well, so I'll change the oil, lube the front end and go. Shooting for the Summit Car show in October.

Will be there without a roadster. Was hoping to have a running roadster but my engine is at the machine shop. Maybe next year for a roadster trip.

You all will find out soon enough, so I thought I would come clean before the Glen. I have wanted to drive a race car for as long as I can remember. Growing up and working around cars (my uncle owned a Chrysler/Plymouth dealerships) wetted my appetite as a teenager. At the time I was helping transport " GTOs " and " Hemi Cudas" , what a great job. I followed the Formula 1 drivers of the 60s (Clark, Hill, Surtees , Stewart and Andretti ) and went to the US Grand Prix at Watkins Glen in1967,68,,70. I missed 69 since I was at "Woodstock". I worked in the pits for my cousin who has been a SCCA driver for many years, who won the NE Regional's and drove at the SCCA Runoffs in Mid Ohio.
Fast forward 40 + years and all that goes with a wife and three children, ( which I still have ) I joined the VSCCA (Vintage Sports Car Club of America) a few years back. Basically, cars eligible to race in the club must be manufactured before 1960, so my 69 Datsun did not qualify. After talking with a number of folks in the club and the guys who helped me restore my Datsun, the general consensus was that it would be crazy
( expensive ) to build out a car and that I should look for a race car that was fully sorted out and proven on the track, the best advice I have gotten to date.
It took me over a year, but in December of 08 I bought a 1959 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce. Hey, being a full blooded Italian that made the most sense. ( No English cars for this guy ) The car had been in storage for the last 3 years and the prior owner had gotten ill and could not race anymore. It's been a race car for over 15 years, and was built out by one of the best East coast Alfa shops (KTR). A bit of history, the prior owner won the Rolex Vintage Festival at Lime Rock four times in the car. The Alfa is super, super fast for its class and at this point is more car than I know how to drive, but I am growing into car and the more seat time I get the better lap times I have been doing. To date, I have raced at Pocono, Lime Rock (two times), NJ Motorsport Park and Watkins Glen. Over Labor Day weekend I will be driving in the Rolex Festival at Lime Rock and I entered the US Vintage Festival at Watkins Glen over our Datsun weekend. I will be spending most of the day at the track Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but plan on spending quality time ( and beer ) with the Datsun group Friday and Saturday.
So, there you go, I have come clean, but I must say my true and first love is my
69 Roadster.
A link to a few pictures of my Italian red head.

PS. Bob Sharp is entered in the Rolex Lime Rock Festival in group 8 driving a
1973 Datsun 240Z , # 33.

I don't think it's you, but Shutterfly. No obvious way to link to actual pics, only the album.

Well, if you have to go Italian, you picked a really nice one.

BTW. If you ever need a great Alfa technician, I went to school with and used to work with Paul Colasacco a of Euro Tec, In North New Jersey. They're big into Alfas and racing, you may have seen him on the track, I have to see if he's at the Glen, haven't seen him in many years.
