Building an RB25DET 240z!

I wanted to share this build with you guys.
I'm building a replica of a friend's 1971 Datsun 240z with an RB25DET drivetrain swap.

This build will be similar to one I did a few years ago: Porsche 993TT brakes, Recaro seats, roll bar, Watts for Panasports, solder for mandrel exhaust, etc.
I am using the Hasegawa 240z kit body/chassis. The paint is GoGreen. I have some BOVs, and turbos, fmic's to play with, but I hope that the "top-Half" engine looks convincing. LHD is from the Fujimi kit.
Image
My goal is to replicate most everything visible in the engine bay

I cut the hood and I figured out how to mount the turbo and clock the outlet:
Image

Next, 1:1 has a Greddy intake manifold with a larger MAF.
I used a RB26 manifold, smoothed it cut off the piping.
made some runners from an old 240z exhaust manifold since they are squared off.
Injectors are from an SR kit
I'll fashion the maf from the charcoal canister/emissions thingy from a 280zx kit.

Added the "Greddy" casting for the emblem:

After some sanding/painting:

I shot the Testors "Go Green" on the valve cover/ engine bay followed by clear and I am pleased with the result:
Image

Added some pulleys for the water/crank/alt. The front cover was modified from an RB20 to look the RB25, including "hump"

With the body on:

Finished the Interstate battery/mounting j-bolts, just need to wire it. Mocked up the intake manifold, need to modify the throttle body as it's too close to the fender. More updates to come!

Alvin,
You are truly, one amazing craftsman. Not only do you build these incredible models but the photography is just as amazing and professional!

Alvin,

That looks amazing. I have been building models since I was about 5 or 6. Mostly glue bombs for the first 10 years or so, but I have gotten a lot better. I have done some mild customs, but nothing to that degree. It made my day to see that others are still building models. Unfortunately, since I got my 1:1, my 1:24s have gone to the wayside. I do have a couple of datsun kits built and a roadster kit or two waiting patiently.

Keep us posted on your progress!

Thanks for following!
I added the brake and clutch m/c's and plumbed them. The booster has a hole drilled so I can route the vacuum hose into the intake manifold later.
I will add a little flurescent highlighter to the reservoir caps to make them looked zinc'd, like the 1:1

finished the battery!
I'm proud of the little grounding wire off the negative terminal cable:lol:

did some work on the turbo.
Mounted/clocked turbine to compressor, added the coolant line:

Then I made a downpipe out of solder, painted it black(coated) and tried to simulate the welding onto the compressor flange:
Image
Finally, I added a little detail I think Rob will be happy with, the wastegate plumbing!

I started working on the intake/FMIC plumbing. Added a radiator fan and intake on the turbo. Tried different beds on the hotpipe and cold pipe to the throttle body, tricky to make things route through the radiator supports!

I added the BOV on the intake side and a little hose on it. Put hose clamps on the rubber connector
I think I will re-do the air filter to be smaller and look like a K&N

Somehow, I think building the actual car would be easier. Phenomenal work, I don't have a fraction of the patience (or attention span) required.

And I thought you needed to have small hands to work on roadsters. Wow.

thanks guys!
Check this out I added the hot pipe, with welds, a heat sheild for the air filter, vacuum line for the BOV off the wastegate, and upper radiator hose with clamps:

There is a hidden catch can for the radiator(just like on my roadster!), I will make that and start wiring the 6 injectors/fuel rail...stay tuned!

An Australian Zcar source recently did a write-up on Rob'z, and featured my YouTube videos!

I tried to make simplified fuel injector wiring/plumbing

Image

-wired each injector,
-made a fuel inlet line and return line
-also added the brake booster vacuum to the intake manifold
