when stainless steel heat up it will color a bit yellowish after time, but with some chrome polish it will be as new in 1 or 2 minutes.

Too true, but the tips shouldn't get too hot should they?

the will be so hot (you can burn your hands to them) that the color after a while.
Even my rear bumper up to the rear muffler pipe will color, but I already told you that polishing can be done in a minute.
I have to say that I use a sport exhaust and not the original, the mufflers are open.

Got tired of body work so I pulled the dash out. Not to hard a job although a couple of plastic connectors did crumble when I pulled on them and naturally one had ten or so wires. It'll probably take more time to fix that than to reinstall the dash. Thanks to the fourm (Linda I think) I know where to get them (vintage connectors). I much prefer to work on the roadster in the winter than Oklahoma summers. .....Mike

What are you doing about the polished lip on the EMPI's and are you going with the original color? My spokes are looking a little dirty and don't respond to cleaning, but I want to keep the original look. Also any idea where to get new O-rings? ______Mike

Mike,
I have that info for the O-rings and will get that to you. I have a set of Empi wheels that I'm restoring for 218 to go with my Empi steering wheel.

Since I don't really know much about (EMPI) wheels, I am powder coating the whole thing the same silver. The color I chose is very close to what they were when I got them. If I don't like the way they turn out (and I see them done a different way that I like more) I have a second set I would get done that way.

I’d be interested in this info as well please Bob. I have a set of O rings but would want a backup set.
Do you have a good source for center caps? I’ve not really looked yet but always like to go with suggestions or word of mouth.
Thanks!
tim

Tim,
I will get the O-ring info to you as well.

I got my caps at Dan's Performance Parts. The caps are item 9708. They are plastic but are like the originals. I don't like the screws provided, so I swapped to a panhead allen in stainless.

Went to mate the transmission to the engine so I could install only to find out my clutch kit has the wrong throwout bearing and no pilot bushing. The bearing is ever so slightly too large on the inside and fits sloppily on the clutch fork, so I shifted gears and started cleaning. Got a large amount of the grease/dirt/crud off of the underside and powerwashed everywhere else. Greased all my zerks and checked the rear axle fluid, filled the master cylinder and free-bled the brakes. Just getting it so I can drive it a few miles to see if there is anything major I need to take care of, then I will strip it down for paint and any bushings/joints/gaskets it needs. Hope to have the engine running, but I need to buy an air/fuel monitor so I can tune the carbs to the best of my abilities, then I'll hopefully have the distributors for testing and I can find out which one works the best!

i rode over the other day, and Bob took me for a nice ride, and that black beauty will fly. handles great, nice and tight, just like it was when brand new.
he had me missing my old 69 roadster, and wishing i could afford 218 and let him start over building 33
