Had a busy day playing motor trimmer.
I fitted all the retaining clips for the door cards, one at a time, checking alignment after each clip was added.
The trims fit perfectly and really look great :D

Also made up a new mesh screen for the air intake on the plenum.

Here is the finished screen fitted to the cowl.

Forecast for the Rally on Sunday is 27degC and cloudy.
Even if I did have a soft top ready, I probably wouldn't use it 8)
Doesn't look very promising that I will have the windshield fitted but that's OK, I'd rather have the chroming done right than rushed.

David wrote:After taking a 5000 mi cross country trip hiding from the Arizona summer I am back on the project. I finished the body work this week and I painted it on Tuesday. I decided on Forest Black for the color, it is a very very dark green that looks black until the sun hits the green pearl. Today I shot the undercoating and the satin black in the enging compartment. Hope to put the front end back on the frame this week with the short springs and Z car brake conversion.
Wow, that laid out beautifully! From the look of the pics it won't even need any wet sanding and buffing. I too know how much freakin work it takes to get something straight, with varying degrees of success! Nice work!

Love it! Great work.

Am I blind? Or are you working without door opening braces? if so, how are you keeping the body from sagging?

I was wondering that also.

This was a very solid car with very minimal rust at the bottom of the front and rear of the rocker. I pulled measurements prior to and while jacking. The car did not and has not flexed at all. It has been on and off the rottisserie several times with the doors on and off. I have another rolling stand that mounts close to the firewall and just above the wheel wells by the package shelf and there is no movement or fitment issues on either stand. If the floor was real bad and the rockers were in worse shape I would have been more concerned.
Thanks for all the complements on the work.

Thanks Greg and Nissanman, The paint did lay down nice but it will get color sanded and polished. You just can't get that depth of reflection without cutting and buffing.

The color is very nice, this will look awesome at any angle.
No side trim for now is the plan, I thought about air brushing it on but am undecided at this point.

Well, we did the Bay To Birdwood Rally 8) 8) 8)
Image
We got to the start location 60mins. before Flag drop and only just made it onto the oval.
1600 vehicles worth well over $30,000,000AUD
We did the whole trip without a windshield and running on the battery.
Somewhere along the line the alternator died.
Didn't matter, the battery lasted OK, after all it was only powering the ignition :)

No end of admirers and heaps of comments, all good.
Had several peeps wanting to know who painted her.
I was chuffed to say "ME!"

One chap turned out to be the very person I will need to see to have the car inspected for Historic Registration
He seems to think I should just scrape in

I love your mirrors on the fenders. I may have to get a pair. I know they are not correct for my 68 but they look so good.

Today i installed my window stopper in the drivers side door. The clip was already in place and I found the rubber bumper rolling around in my door previously ( I just didn't know what it was till I got help here.

I also patched my dried out tonneau cover.

I started working on my heater as well. the fan sounds excellent. I need to make some new gaskets for the door flaps on the heater box. I bought a Z heater valve as it looks like it will work with just an L bracket fabrication. But I found my old frozen rusty 311 valve so I dunked it in some anti rust solution. If it gets unfrozen....then I will rebuild the original. If I can find parts.

Looks very nice, can't wait to be able to drive mine.
Spent the last few days color sanding and polishing. Tedious process to say the least.
Im getting an estimate for the interior tomorrow.
