well duh, i read the tec write up in PMWIKI and did it by the book. and it took lots longer than you guys. i also had one of the nuts in the nose of the plate that the spring sits on to get messed up trying to force a bolt to start that wasn't lined up.

so off to a welding shop with new grade 8 nuts and bolts to have the old ones cut off and new ones tacked on. the other side was still good, but the bolt felt loose in the threads.

anyway its all good, and my old shocks look as though they came on the car new. very worn out.

and Dave, i ordered the KYB GR2 with my engine internals from Dean. he is a great vendor in the fact that my machinist didn't think we got the correct rings, and Dean had a set shipped directly to him, trusting me to return the others. you don't find that too much these days, but it saved me at least a week or two if Dean had waited on mine before shipping the others back out. So I have never had my car running with a complete fuel system. Ive never seen a complete SU fuel system on a 2000.
I have 68 2000 with SUs. My Datsun 2000 manual doesnt specify how to hook the system up.
I have my new gas tank in and Im running lines up front. It appears that the small line is the feed line and the larger line is the return. That just doesnt sound right so I wanted to check. It makes a big difference if the tank is setup to use the small line as the pickup.

Ill take any advice i can get rather than play the guessing game.

The small is the feed, the large is the return. I guess it makes sense in the concept that the return is for vapor.

I think I'm missing something here. In reading the info in the tech wiki on setting the float level, I can't figure out what it's saying to do.

It says:
You can do this by turning the cover upside down and with a 1/8" drill bit. Set the drill bit across the cover. The float tab should just touch the bit.

I can't figure out how to use the drill bit for this. Where, exactly, do I place it? I can't get it so that it rolls beneath the tab, because the rest of the valve mechanism is there.

The drill lays across the cover and you measure from the edge of the float at the side opposite the pivot pin. If the needle valve and pivot pin is at 12:00, the drill lays from 5:00 to 7:00 and you measure at 6:00.

You can also use a vernier caliper and measure from the cover to the float at the 6:00 point.

Take the parts over to Mark's house. He hasn't got enough to do...

Quick question...do you use the wedge spacer under the middle latch when you're mounting a hardtop or is it just for the soft top?

stupid question of the day. coming home last night i pull into the garage and turn my headlights off on my roadster.

my twelve year old asks why they are glowing green after being turned off. i had no clue what to tell him.

Are they stock lights or aftermarket?

sorry Kyle, but they were on the car when i purchased it. and i am too lazy to take them out to tell you the make.

Are you sure he hadn't been staring into the lights and what he was seeing was the "afterglow" in his own retina?

If you look at a light and then close your eyes you'll see a "green" glow where the light struck your eyes. This also happens with bright RED as a color. That's part of the reason why operating rooms and scrubs used to be that light green color, so surgeons wouldn't become blinded by the reflection of the blood... or so it was explained to me when I worked at a hospital.

well that makes sense, but i saw it too. and it was after turning off the lights,and getting out of the car. now i am curious and may just pull one out to see. whatever is in there, is nice and bright. i have no trouble seeing at night, and i usually complain about not being able to see.

You should be able to see the bulb through the lens, switch off . Most of the funky H4's have a coating. I've seen the green glow before, but forgot what car it was.

O.K. So all my controll arms are sitting on my bench top waiting to be restored with new ball joints ,upper pivot's and bushings. My stupid question for the day is for an instalation procedure for the bushing's. I've looked through threads and WIKI for some info but am probably missing it. Should any measurements be taken before I take them apart? Thanks for all your help. Mike.

I know that the later 69s and 70s had a better steering gearbox. Is there a number that we know started the conversion, i.e., SPL-35000 or like that? If not, any easy way to distinguish the better steering box on 69s?
