Now that it's cooling off a little, I hope to under the car. Also, with the bent axle, I don't think I'll be making it to Williams, unless it's on a trailer. Really need to get the new fuel pump in so I can finish tuning the carbs.

Anyone with a carter rotary fuel pump? is the soft-mount-quiet-kit worth the extra $?

updating the todo list, so I can stay accountable to myself.. notice nothing got done all summer, list got longer.. I did manage to acquire some parts though.

[ ]install new fuel pump (bought a carter rotary)
[ ]continue carb tuning
[ ]rear axle (fixed or upgrade)
[ ]figure out front center caps.. maybe buy some new grease caps and smash them to fit? 3d print new ones?
[ ]obtain and install soft top (frame is still good)
[ ]figure out the electrical draw (!@#$!!!!)
[ ]get the windows to roll up and down
[ ]weather stripping on doors and trunk installed
[ ]working gauges (+oil pressure & water temp senders)
[ ]wiper motor needs hooked up (need to find wiper arms too, they're hiding in the garage somewhere)
[ ]gas hood struts? (need to buy, measure, test)
[ ]windshield sprayer needs hooked up
[ ]music? (I'm writing some software to put a raspberry pi with a touch screen where the clock currently is)
[ ]replace brake hoses with nismo braided (purchased)
[ ]remount tires that are mounted backwards (directional)
[ ]rewire radiator fan properly
[ ]install nardi steering wheel

Crossing stuff off the list!! new stuff on the bottom, updates in ( ) :)

[ ]install new fuel pump (bought a carter rotary-no space under the car for it.. I might have to reroute to the trunk.)
[ ]continue carb tuning (main jets are in place, idle jets still too lean.. I'm debating whether to drill out some of the real small ones vs. ordering new ones)
[X]rear axle (upgraded to John's RX7 LSD rear end with disc brakes, also widened so I don't need spacers in back anymore.. Thanks John!)
[ ]figure out front center caps.. maybe buy some new grease caps and smash them to fit? 3d print new ones?
[ ]obtain and install soft top
[ ]figure out the electrical draw
[ ]get the windows to roll up and down
[ ]weather stripping on doors and trunk installed
[ ]working gauges
[ ]wiper motor needs hooked up
[ ]gas hood struts?
[ ]windshield sprayer needs hooked up
[ ]music?
[ ]replace brake hoses with nismo braided
[X]remount tires that are mounted backwards (directional)
[ ]rewire radiator fan properly
[ ]install nardi steering wheel
[X]install new fuel filter
[X]re-run, mount, seal, fuel lines -- when the car went up to do the rear end swap, I said.. HO!Y SH!T - fuel line was loose and was rubbing against the back wheel.

need more info/pics of RX-7 rear setup! You had it widened??? By how much?

I'll try to get pics this weekend. I had 20mm spacers on each side to fit my Enkei Compe 15x7 +25. So I just asked them to be widened by 20mm on each side so I didn't have to use spacers anymore.

In the meantime, here's zoomed in back passenger side (click for full size) :)

ok, so it is still narrowed, but effectively +40mm wider than a stock roadster axle if I understand correctly.

Correct.

26312 has a new Nissan buddy. The instant 210 lb/ft. of torque at 1 rpm is very addictive! No more gas stations!

One update this week, one that I've been working to finish off for a year now. I'm calling carb tuning done!! I went to see Keith Williams with a set of idle jets that were too lean. Keith mounted them up on the lathe and turned some 55F8 into 75F8. I was running 65F8, and way too lean (17AFR) at cruise. The engine is so much happier now. No flat spot either! Now happily cruising at 13-14. Thanks Keith!

Saturday before last, almost didn't make it home with the clutch pedal all the way down and no actuation. A couple pumps and once in a while would let me shift. Got home and found the clutch master reservoir empty.

Monday, smartly thought to look under the dash to see what the haps was, and there is clear fluid loss inside.. Also found drip marks on the brake master cylinder.

I order a new clutch master, the 510 brake master, some speed bleeders while we were at it, and cruised by a local NAPA for the adapters to fit the brake master. Also reached out to beg for some help doing the work on Saturday.

Saturday, Keith Williams stopped by early in the morning to help, installed new clutch master (my 240sx slave cylinder has about 1000 miles on it), new brake master went, and SS braided brake lines went in the front. We will have to sort out the rear hose later.

Yesterday, went for a short drive around the block. Clutch works! It's stopping better than I ever remembered.. my wife told me my brake lights are always on (oops!). 5 minutes to adjust the switch and all good.

My to-do list didn't get any shorter, since I can't say all the hoses have been changed out. :/

I wore shorts to work today! Springruary has arrived in Las Vegas!

I went into the garage Saturday morning to start the car to warm it up for a morning drive. Went back in and grabbed some breakfast, then wife asks if I would go with her to go pick up the kids. Proceeded to go out the front door (garage is behind the house), get in a different car to pick up the kids. After stopping at a gas station, I realize that I left a car idling at home.. almost 2 hours idling unattended.

Got home to a very warmed up car, but no time to drive it. :/

Awesome man, carb adjustments, better brakes, and friends to help... Can't beat that! One of the fastest cars in its class I ever saw at PIR ran a 12 valve KA engine with dual webers... Clearly a highly developed race engine, but it was blowing the corvettes off the track (240sx).

I finally figured out why after down sizing the main jets, I was still running just as rich as I was before.. I bought them at a local VW shop and have been in the car for a year.. I kept adjusting the air, thought I had the smallest mains I could handle... relieved that I wasn't going crazy and know the next step. But kinda mad at myself that I didn't look. I've probably spent a over 20 hours trying to dial in the mains/e-tube/air correctors over the past year or so, I was so close.

I've been spending a lot of time with my carbs lately, this article cam up in my feed today. One of the reasons I still love monkeying with my car. I don't know what I would do if I ever get that carb tuned "perfectly."

Ah, ya, that would make some major difference!!!! I have spent A LOT of time tuning my Dellortos, so I can very much relate. The syncronizer shown in the R&T article is the exact one I have, and I can no longer find it new (similar ones, but not the same). I don't recall if you are using a wide band O2 sensor set up or not, but THAT made all the difference in the world. I can monitor my engine at all times, and at 11.7 to 1 compression I want to make sure she does not go lean. The wide band is GREAT at finding transition problems, etc. You simply cannot read plugs and do that...

Been a while! Working on the electrical.

Sunset sat in the garage most of the summer with a dead battery. 3 year old redtop failed. I've always had a parasitic draw, and installed a ground disconnect.

Since I've had this parasitic draw, my battery had been drained MANY times, and probably killed it quicker. So I decided on an Optima Yellow Top .

It arrived today and installed as soon as I got home. Started her up and things were spiffy... finally decided to test the parasitic draw and I'm getting 322mA leaking through. What's the ideal number here? I'm guessing less than 100mA? less than 50mA? Oh, and the ground disconnect.. I apparently wasn't turning the knob enough, and it was still passing current, testing with the multimeter shows that I have to turn that knob over until it almost falls off.

Gotta find that short... maybe I'll have time this weekend.. but probably not. :/
