The orange makes it look like half a Chevy engine. Reminds me of my 65 Chevelle.
66 stroker, almost done.
67 basket case, paint coming soon.

I also put my U20 together that's been sitting in pieces in my garage for the past year and a half and dropped it in the car. Been road testing and jetting the carbs for the trip up to the Glen.

Hey Sid you could appreciate this........this was the engine that sat at Marks house for 10 years, then at Daves house for another 2-3 years. It finally been taken apart and put back together and is running.
I am jealous. I wanted that engine...

Behind the grill is painted flat black as it should - by hand even

Thanks Gary, can't wait to see your resurrected roadster. This one won't be ready for the Glen as we are heading down on Saturday. I have to set up the carbs and road test like you. Haven't played with the solex carbs before so I am in for a learning experience - hopefully one that goes BULLOOOP, BULLOOP!. Carbs are freshly rebuilt and set up for a U20 (I was told by PO) so I am optimistic.

Have some little nigley things to run down like an adjustable dog bone, wheter or not to run a fuel pressure regualtor, type of fuel fittings for the carbs (nipples or fittings), and need connect up all the electrics....not to mention make sure it all works...reliably.

Still need to install interior, get it licensed, etc, etc - next year for sure!

I picked it up from Dave October 2011 and then sat 3 hours in the Metlife, Jet game traffic on the way home, Kathy still pissed at me for that...........he decided against putting it in his 1500.

I did offer to sell it back to Mark when he blew the 1500 engine:)

Hey Joe let me know if you want to borrow my solex jet collection, I have a good variety and it will save you money trying different combos...........also did I make you a copy of my solex manual.....get back to me and I'll bring up to the Glen with me.

I have one of these.

This is not needed if you go with the stock pump. It worked for over 40 years, unless the laws of physics as they apply to hydraulic forces has changed, I see no reason that you have to have one.

Originally they would be banjo bolts with nipples. Of course there are other ways to skin that cat.

I took it to be part of a photo shoot for Bob's Big Boy..

So a little polish and clean up, and then we all got started..

When we arrived the CHP was eating dinner.. Which is exactly what you want to see when showing up with a bunch of HIGHLY modified cars.. So I decided to be the sacrificial lamb and park next to him.. It's hilarious how tiny this car is parked next to a full size cruiser..
Image

But he was beyond cool, and one of the cars was originally built for one of the Fast n Furious movies, and the owner wanted a photo, so..
Image

Then we started setting up the shoot..

Everything set up..
Image

All done.. I grabbed a neon reflection off the door..
Image

I can't wait to see the real photos.. these are all grabs with my cell phone.

Anyway, fun night..

It's awesome how the oldest car there grabs the spotlight - and not just because it's a convertible, though that helps!
Looking forward to seeing the final shots - sure hoping you can share!

Definitely take that offer of borrowing jets!! Every engine and location is different, so at least some fine tuning will likely be required. I've said it before, I'll say it again: O2 Air/Fuel meter is money well spent, even if you don't keep it installed. Buy a good carb balancer, read the Mikuni manual so you understand the carbs and how they work, set the accelerator on the lightest setting (I think that's the bottom hole on the rod), and enjoy the bonding experience! Excited for you man! Hopefully you won't get Roto-pluked (I had to look up the Frank Zappa lyrics to get that one right!)

I spent from 10am to 2:30 am the next day on my car, running on two bowls of Cheerios and 3 cups of coffee. I tend to lose track of time, or I got abducted by aliens... Not sure which. I finalized and routed all the wiring and covers, installed the center consul (damn, what a bitch! That's what you get when you modify old things. With the cd player in it it just fought me every step) and prepped for engine install when the flywheel comes. Listening for the UPS truck now... Hope I hope I hope!

Nice photo of the iconic So Cal car spot, Bob's Big Boy burger joint.
All the cars look good, and nice wax job Mike! What do you use?

Thanks everyone..

Linda, I use some McGuires spray wax whenever I wash the car, which is pretty often as it gets pretty dirty in the canyons around here.. When I think it needs special attention, I take it to the Car Spa in Newport Beach for a clay bar, probably once a quarter.. Those guys are amazing, and it leaves a base that is easy to keep up, even the way I abuse the car..

And Greg.. that's hilarious. I know that 2:30 moment when you start thinking "Am I still out here in the garage?"

And I wasn't there with him although he did call me for a question.
